Does anyone know of any pictures of Nikki Lauda when he was starting out in Fvee?

There is at least one photo of him in an FV in the book Art and Science of Grand Prix racing. I went to look in my copy and realize it was loaned out-wish I remember who borrowed it......

Not in that book but there are photos of him rolling a Vee in To Hell and Back and For the Record.

He says he was offered a Formula Vee spot in 1969 in Kurt Bergmann's Kaimann team; the same team in which Keke Rosberg was to make a name for himself two years later.

For the Record has a list of his 1969 Formula Vee results.

Picture of First Somersault

In Herr Lauda's "To Hell and Back: An Autobiography", there is the picture captioned, "First somersault: Formula Vee in 1969 at Aspern near Vienna." If this is suitable could I ask where I should look to find the format and technique of posting a picture into 10/10s. Appologies for this simple request, just a bit out of touch since I have been away from 10/10s for over a year and posting pictures has never been attempted.

The image must be on a web server; then post the image's http address like this:

The image must be on a web server.

I take it then it is not permitted for copyright reasons to scan it from a book as I directly implied by my attributed reference previously. I take it therefore only original copyright holders are permitted to source original material.

I note also that the insistance of a web server source makes no reference as to whether that original source has copywright permision.

Can "Cyberdorf" also explain the second entry of: "Now, if I had a scanner here..." that his subsequent post seems to contradict unless he has his own original photographic evidence.

I simply want clarity as to what is permitted, the required compatible format (lossy or unlossy) and the degree of compression for future reference.

Yes he certainly can. Had he a scanner available to him he would (without hesitation) have scanned the images in question from the books he has in his possession, and posted them here.

Any picture of his vee would be good. Does anyone know if it was a Kaimann or an Austro-Kaimann?

It was a Kaimann. Austro-Vau was a different manufacturer.

Yes but the two were often said to be Austro-Kaimann - Austro was the Porsche works car - not Kaimann but the Austro-Kaimann was an Austro....

Confused? - this is why a pic of the car is pretty essential!

Steve Wilkinson is a back marker
Austro Kaimann

Enteries in the Formel Vau support race at the 1970 German GP at Hockenheim included:

Knut-Holger Lehmann driving an 'Austro Kaimann, as were Gunther Rosch,
Joachim Schlicksupp, Ingo Schneider, Norbert Wieland and Rainer Zefferer.

Not being that au fait with the Formula Vee cars I just take the programme entries at face value.

I have just picked up this thread. You will have seen Nikki Lauda in his Olympic in Vee Views a couple of years ago. I also have a pic of his Beach look-alike and some of him at that time in early German Vee Express newspaper & Vee Sport mags. PM me if you still want this. And it is understandable that Austro-Kaimanns and the like are confusing because most European Vee manufacturers started with re-badged or re-chassised Beaches so look simliar.

Lauda in F/Vee

Hi ErleMin

Some years ago on the this forum, you mentioned that you have a pic of Lauda in his Beach look-alike (presumably the Kaimann Mk III of 1968) and some of him in the MkIV (1969) in early German Vee Express newspaper & Vee Sport mags.

I have spent many years researching Lauda's early career and its fair to say that the F/Vee years are generally poorly-documented. I wonder if you have any articles from the magazines you mentioned that cover the races below, and if so would you be able to scan them and email to me so I could pore through them? Happy to give you my direct email address if that is easier for you.

The F/Vee races I am trying to flesh out my information on are:
8/9/1968 – Keimola, Finland-Austria Challenge
6/10/1968 – Aspern, Donau Pokal
12/10/1968 – Innsbruck Flugplatzrennen
27/10/1968 – Dopplerhutte Hillclimb
12/4/1969 – Hockenheim, Deutschland Trophy
13/4/1969 – Aspern Flugplatzrennen
24/4/1969 – Belgrade Grand Prix
11/5/1969 – Budapest Nagydija
6/6/1969 – Sopron
6/6/1969 – Rossfeld Hillclimb
29/6/1969 – Nurburgring, Hansa Pokal
31/8/1969 – Mantorp Park, Nordic Challenge Cup
21/9/1969 – Salzburgring, Preis von Salzburg
5/10/1969 – Innsbruck Flugplatzrennen
12/10/1969 – Nurburgring, Eifel Cup
26/10/1969 – Munich-Neubiberg Flugplatzrennen

Any help you can give would be hugely appreciated!

Many thanks & kind regards..

Jon

Agreed, but that does date back to the original post rather than subsequent replies! Maybe only the forum administrators could edit that!
