What constitutes an engine?

Ok, I'm sure we are now all aware of the one engine rule by now.

But my question is, what is the definition of an engine?

Does the engine have to be "Sealed" for the weekend?

ARe the teams allowed to strip down or take components off the engine during the weekend?

IIRC they can check the engines for wear and damage but replacing stuff from it will be punished by a penalty. (back of the grid or something)

There are FIA seals preventing key work - they can change the oil and stuff like that, but they couldn't (for example) take off a cylinder head and replace a valve.

Hmmm... from what i know, the biggest and main components of the engines are sealed, any changes to them results in a penalty. However, minor parts, oils etc are allowed to be changed.

thanks guys.

FOr those who saw the telecast in Australia, they had an interesting article on the Shell technicians for ferrar and the analysis they do on the oil, to predict wear rates etc.

The one engine rule is going to be the "spice" for the year.

All hell is going to break loose when Ferrari or williams blow an engine during practice and have to start ROF

I was amazed that someone major didn't lose an engine in the AGP, let alone on Saturday. AFAIK, no-one suffered an engine falure on Saturday, necessitating a ROF start for Sunday?

Kimi lost his water-pump..which in turn over-heated the engine!

now out of curiosity, would they have been allowed to replace the water pump, or would that have neccesitated a penlty?

AKAIK, they can change engine "anicllaries" like water pumps etc without penalty. Piy was it happened in the race not on Saturday.

where was the 'spice' at Melbourne, Kimi blew but we all knew that was a possibility and almost all the others ran perfectly.

I'm sure it was a water pump, but these things always remind me of the days on Renault reitrements due to electrical failure (very smokey electrical failure!).

1200Datto27 has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
I think that it's something like this!

Norbert; Yes,The water pump failed.

Interviewer; What caused the failure?

Norbert; The conrod entering the water pump caused it to fail.
