If you count Turkey as middle eastern they have their own F3 championship.

Boris Said and Bobby Rahal have Arabic ancestry, but I don't know of any others from that part of the world. There aren't many Eastern European drivers worthy of a mention (beyond Janis, Baumgartner and the Enges) either. Not many Muslim drivers either, they seem poorly represented in racing, even once you consider the demographic issues.

Given the complete absence of local tarmac circuits and single seater championships in the Arab World - no surpises.
There is of course a lot of desert in the Middle East - so there are a lot of WRC and Group N rally cars out there - people like Ford sponsored Mohammed Bin Sulayem (WRC Ford Focus - retired 13 times FiA Middle East Rally Champion)and many many others like him. He is the first Arab driver to register his name in the Guinness Book of World Records after a record 58 international championships. He is also classified as a group "A" member, the highest title in Rally Federation accreditation. In Europe, one of the top drivers in a single seat Radical ProSport (sportscar) is Iraqi driver, Ziad El-Akabi. However - there are now four brand new circuits under construction in the Arabian Gulf - so things will change. |

At the moment Dubai and Bahrain are building circuits so they have not really had the chance to start yet. There is a very good karting scene in the Middle East with a number of hot young drivers. As soon as the tracks open they will filter in to cars. One guy who is very quick is a guy called Christophe Hissette. He is very quick indeed. Quicker than Adam Carroll in the 24 Hour Karting race last year. I am not sure how quick he would be in a car but I wouldn't bet against him. With little competition you they could have sponsors lining up to sponsor them in Dubai.
Most people will have heard of the famous Dubai rally driver - Mohammed Bin Sulayem? |

Yeah but like...he's the only one. There's a reason he's won a gajillion titles.
Its like the time I finished 4th in a statewide high school tennis competition, my first ever tournament. Only 4 of us entered. |
