The Sponsorless 1000

At this stage of the ball game, TC hasn't been capable of securing a sponsor for Bathurst.

Has the bubble burst?
Was he asking too much?

Bathurst has been capable of having a sponsor for 40 odd years now...what's the problem now?

Like I answered on Usenet - I believe that there are two issues here:

1. The asking price is too high - in the current economic climate this wouldn't surprise me.

2. Value for money - it simply isn't there.

In line with Bathurst - who is sponsoring the NZ round?

Seeing as TC himself rates Canberra and Adelaide higher than Bathurst, imagine the asking price he's gonna ask for when their contract runs out.

To put this into perspective, if Bathurst 99 could get a sponser, the asking price for the 1000 must be ridiculous, a further sign of TC losing it.

Alsom it is being marketed as the V8SUPERCAR 1000, no mention of The Great Race or Bathurst 1000, that the commentators and Sports Tonight etc always call it, is it not officially called that cos of legal reasons, or Tony didn't think of that name.

I think the Great Race, Bathurst 1000 would probably be the property of the Bathurst Consortium.

Do you think they might pick someone up at the last moment at a steal for the naming rights? From what I can gather, Konica got a very good deal with their series...

BATHURST

TC SHOULD PULL HIS HEAD OUT OF HIS ARSE AND GET A SPONSER OR WE MIGHT LOSS BATHURST ALL TOGETHER. AS QANTAS IS NO LONGER THE MAIN SPONSER FOR THE GRAND PRIX IT WOULD BE NICE OF THEM TO SPONSER THE GREAT AUSTRALIAN RACE SO COME ON TC DO SOMETHING ABOUT NOW BEFORE ITS TO LATE.......

Then again, what does a major sponsor do? Line TC's pockets?
