BTCC meetings - evening meals
I've been asked by a team involved with this year's BTCC meetings if marshals would like, and be prepared to pay a small amount for, an evening meal (BBQ, hot pot for example) on the Saturday evening of BTCC meetings. This would be in a hospitality unit alongside other people involved in the championship.
If you're planning on camping at a BTCC round this season, please let me know if you'd be interested (and how much you'd be prepared to pay). It'll save you having to bring a Pot Noodle in the car! Feel free to put something in this thread, or PM me. For starters: I'd be quite happy paying a fiver for some decent grub after a long day on the bank, especially if the Clio Cup cars have been out recently And in the interests of full disclosure, I'm not involved with this in any financial sense which would see me getting any money! |

Sounds good to me. Snetterton and Silverstone rounds are the ones I will be camping at. What about my spectator son?

I wonder if the Team involved has cleared this retail catering with the venues they will be racing at? Especially if they are offering it to the public as well?

So far as I am aware this is a marshal-only offer, but I'll pass the question on along with the more general point of the level of "retailness".

With regard to the "clearance" question, the folks involved are already paying the venues the cost of a retail space which permits the sale of goods to the attending public, so that's covered that.

Greem - this sounds like a great idea.
It's something I've seen and heard work well in US racing circles. It's a win-win situation and deserves to succeed - as long as we marshals respect the terms and are gracious. |

You have to be very careful, particularly at Silverstone where Aspire Catering hold the concession, best check with Penny first, otherwise great offer.

And well done to them, a kind thought even if they're only doing this at cost, but it sounds like there's going to be a degree of subsidy too. It does highlight a poor show from the powers that organise our higher profile meetings, but that shouldn't in any way reflect on this team for wanting to do something about it. And where one leads, others may be encouraged to follow.
I also don't do BTCC, but if I did I would make a point of supporting this effort. |

A generous offer and predictably from a smaller team, not the big budget commercial types! Hope they get named in due course and we remember to be extra nice if we happen to meet their drivers in the gravel trap.
Any excuse to hang around and socialise with a team whilst the crowds are in the exit traffic jams sounds great. Hope it works out, but Silverstone will almost certainly be a no-no. Last year, the 750MC folk were as creative as possible in finding a way to support us during the WHT, but Aspire do have a very strong contract giving them the concession for food sales. |

I never expect anything for free and would be willing to pay a moderate sum for some food and a bit of friendly banter. I suppose the question that needs to be asked is whether its a profit making commercial enterprise that's exploiting a captive audience or someone offering the hand of human friendship.
I'm sure it's the latter and if I'm not mistaken the same thing happens at the fun cup with any profit going to charity. Count me in |

I'm just a spanner monkey that helps out with a club race car so I hope you don't mind me popping in to give my thoughts!
I think it's a very great idea from a small BTCC team. I, also, think that if any circuit doesn't like it they should have a good think about the 'bigger' picture. If you gays and galls in orange didn't give up your free time, travel miles, buy all your own gear, etc. etc. All at your own expense. If you didn't do that the circuits wouldn't be able to run any race meeting. |

Better than some of the "road kill" that gets served up at some circuits?!

Same thought crossed my mind when I heard about the WHT "challenges" - until then I'd presumed that charging for food came under their contract, but giving it away had been ok? Regardless of Silverstone probs, hope it goes really well wherever there are no obstructions!

Not sure whether I will be in a position to take advante of this offer. However, it is an appreciated and welcomed move.
Good question; however, in the recent cases of when hot food has been provided to all by the organisers it has had to be provided by Aspire as demonstrated by them taking over the running of the MGCC barbeque and hence the creativity (and much appreciated) arrangements by the 750MC at last year's Birkett. |

Can I please point out that the question was "how much would you be willing to pay?", not "it'll cost 5 pounds".
I suggested a fiver as that's what I'd be happy with. If you feel it should be less than that, say so - they're listening! |
