As has been mentioned elsewhere, the CSCC Group 1 Rovers tend to be very smokey. The Group A (ex Dennis Leech car) SD1 that runs in Classic Thunder shows none of these tendencies. Of course the Group 1 Rovers weren't particularly successful but I don't recall the smokiness during those days.
Now, the early 80's racers were not subject to noise limits like we are nowadays. And, during the Thruxton meeting this year the Camaro of Tony Scott Andrews drank most of its oil due to the new "quieter" silencers that had been installed during the previous week. So, the question is twofold really. If the Rover engines are more powerful than in their heyday, the smoke may be caused by the performance mods. However can the restricted silencer system be causing this phenomenon? BTW. Group A regs decreed that standard manifolding was used. This is not the case for group 1. Over to you Sparkster. |
