Why F1 could use a Nigel clone right about now.
Seems to me that fans the world over crave a bit of human interest drama, some melodrama and a brave pass a bit more often.
Judging by several responses in another thread regarding ultimate match-ups I started, people like a pretty much even balance of "calculators" and "warriors" in their six combatants. Nigel, if only you were about ten years younger.... |

In a sense, I agree. But not just a Nigel clone, my love of the era would demand clones of Senna, Prost and Piquet as well.

Cloning late 80s F1 in general would be a great thing, but it needs more than the drivers. We need the same type of powerful but not super-advanced cars, costs cheap enough to allow small teams with a love of motorsport to compete, no major car manufacturers screwing thigs up for their own ends, and of course Murray (well, anyone but James Allen) commentating.

Right, well I'll leave Matt and Bononi to sort out the cloning issue, Boots, you sort out the cars - and I'll sit back in my favourite armchair in front of the tele and enjoy.....

Late '80s F1 with those cars, those drivers and Murray/James is what I miss. Well, maybe James and not Murray. What I don't miss is the fuel consumption races that put Keke et al on a leash.
These days, it's the SC/pit windows which are the restrictors and haven't done much to improve the "show". I'd love to see Nigel, Senna and Rosberg vs Jpm, JV and Kimi under the up-coming Qual format. I think the rule makers are trying things to make F1 better but tech has made it a bit sterile and the personalities aren't what they were in times past to keep things bubbling. |

I think we don't need driver clones; we have too much watching the brothers, sons and cousins of famous racing drivers also driving in top categories.
