1980 RAY formula ford and Tecno engines
Hi folkes,
I'm an old user of this forum but for some reason I can't log onto my old account (halecmini). Anyway, we've just embarked on a new journey of classic ff's and recently acquired a 1980 Ray, it needs a rebuild but it's all there. I've searched about on the net but I really can't find much about the 1980 Ray, it's very similar to the Cossle 25f but that's as much as I know. Similarly does anyone know anything about tecno as engine tuners? I will try and upload some photos... Many thanks in advance, Dave C |

Hello Mr Kosmos !!
Would you like to come and race with us in BARC Classic FF1600 ? We have two classes Class A - Pre 82 and Class B - Pre 74. The majority of the regular runners run in Class A which is where your 1980 Ray would fit as does the Crossle 25F. I do not know much about Ray cars or Tecno but there is a wealth of knowledge within our Club so someone may be able to help. We pride ourselves on being a friendly formula and we make a lot of effort to look after new and returning Drivers. We are out at Castle Coombe on 5th October for our final race of the year. If you would like a ticket to come down to Castle Coombe and meet all the Drivers and our Coordinator Peter Hackett then pm me and we will arrange one. Mike Gardner and Adriano Medeiros are just 3 points apart for the Class A Championship so it should be an exciting race !! More information here http://www.barc.net/competitions/single-seater-racing-cars look at the Keyline.com Classic Formula Ford bits on that page. There is the official scoreboard for both Classes and all the Regulations etc as well. The website www.classicformulaford.com is a bit out of date as we have been having problems with access to it - but if you happen to do Facebook there is a lot more recent stuff on there. Search for Classic Formula Ford. Regards Andrew Smith |

Thak you Both,
Alan, any idea when the formula E championship ran? Was it a formula ford only championship? Andy, yes that's the plan! We (my farther, little brother and I) are hoping to do a few rounds next year. We've been racing Jedi's in the monoposto championship for a while, (but not for a few years) but we are looking for something a bit safer and hopefully more reliable! Even if it'll be a bit sadate in comparason I hope the excitement of the racing will make up for it! We will try and pop down to Combe, it would be good to meet you all. If anyone has any pictures / info on the Ray we would be extremely interested. Many thanks, Dc |

Hi
Are you one of the Camerons'? Formula E ran from 1985 to about 1993 It was for FF1600 so long as it had outboard suspension. It was a very successful formula, even if I say so myself. The photos seem to be of a car with the Crossle 25F pointy nose and side rad conversion. Tecno were - as Alan said - part sponsor of the Formula E Championship at one time. They haven't been active in FF engines for some while, but I have an idea that they are still active in engine work (under a different trading name) in the Stockport area. As Peter Hackett will tell you, when you have the pleasure of talking to him (sorry listening to him), that the car fits nicely into his Classic series. It is also eligible in Class E of the BRSCC championships, so plenty of opportunities to race it. |

Of course the car is a 'Brands Hatch' car - ran at Brands in period and would be ideally suited for The Kentagon Cup class of the 2014 Champion of Brands - a series offering races on both the Brands Hatch Indy and Grand Prix layouts.
