Pizzonia
"I'm very confident that we are going to have a good result here," he said. "I want to be on the podium here and I think we can do it. It's a good track for Williams, I've always had good results here and I know the track well." [EDIT: see link below for full article /EDIT] Last edited by Adam43; 27 Aug 2004 at 17:08. |

Do you think he can?
Thanks for the link, but can you refrain from posting the entire article, just the bits that are relevant to what you would like to discuss - Adam |

He's got to be joking - assuming the Ferraris both finish there's only one podium place up for grabs really and Pizzonia has only an outside chance of grabbing it, the BAR's, Renaults, McLarens and Montoya all have just as good a chance as Pizza if not better. He should be happy with another points finish - that's a more realistic target.

I can't see Pizzonia grabbing a podium unless there is a high attrition rate.

Still you have to aim high, agreed that his chances are not that high. I wonder what teh odds are right now for a top 5 finish for him. Might be worth a quid or two.

I agree Draven, if he said I'd just aiming for points he be branded a weed for not trying.
It is unlikely, but not impossible... |

Unlikely, but you can't drive for Williams and aim for 8th place.

If it's dry, a Ferrari 1-2 is pretty near-certain, and Pizzonia is very unlikely to beat eveyrone else on his first attempt at the track. If it's wet, less cars will finish, but he might find the experience even harder. Beating his previous best of 7th is a good target, but sounding bullishly optimistic going into the race is the best pproach under the circumstacnes. No one will claim that he's failed if he finishes 5th or 6th, even if JPM does get on the podium.

He should be aiming to win the race, not just 3rd spot! He is driving for a top team!

People who aren't driving for Ferrari, for example. He's a racing driver, not a magician or saboteur.

Its the right attitude to have though, the odds are against him, but the only way he's going to achieve is if he believes that he can do it in his own mind first.

Once he's got back used to the racing aspects of F1, he can be as good as guys like Montoya and Webber. Jaguar will be made to look stupid on both Pizzonia and Wilson, mark my words.

The only way Pizzonia will be on the podium at Spa is if he is presenting a trophy.

So, Pizzonia is a bad person for aiming high AND Button is daft for being realistic and saying Ferrari will beat them.
It is really easy to find things to bash isn't it. |

Someone should inform Pizza boy on how many time a Williams has been on the podium this year.

And someone should remind all you bashers that Antonio wrapped up the 2000 British F3 Championship at Spa...

Mathematically if he had kept his position starting heavier in the dirty side of the track in Hungary he would get a podium finish.
That Williams is not the best car but had some potential to be fulfiled. Pizzonia also admited to have taken it easy in qualifying due to the rain... so yes he could've done that car go faster. |
