Trimar should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid

In which Grand Prix in 1993 did Ayrton Senna go from 5th on the grid to 1st on the initial lap.

Quite correct RWC. This is definately the best place for answers to that kind of question.

If you have no luck here, Trimar (And that's unlikely!) I'd suggest you try the Historic Forum!

I'm afraid I have no idea, by the way!!

Actually I think this may be a trick question I looked at Forix for this question (as I am trying to answer it too) and it tells me that Senna was actually 4th on the grid when at Donington so he when from 4th to 1st not 5th to first...thus I think it may be "none of the above" since that is one of the options in the question. Can anyone prove me wrong?

Doesn't it seem sad that drivers like Fisichella, Coultard, Barrichello, and Ralf all have secure seats in F1, despite having had race winning cars for many more seasons than Jacques, yet failing to chalk up as many wins as he (let alone a WDC) that it is Jacques who doesn't have a drive in F1??? Sad indeed.

4th on the grid yea. your right. 100%

good moves, he was the only one with his head in gear for the wet.

unless his car was on full wet settings, and the others werent...

but then, they never tell us that!!

Michael had gotten ahead of Ayrton initially, at the start, and thus Ayrton was coming from 5th place as he moved inside Michael on the approach to the first corner. Then came Wendlinger for 3rd, Hill for 2nd, and Alain for 1st. A remarkable lap, especially the Wendlinger pass.

Judging from your name I'm sure you know what your talking about but a possible trip to Monaco rests on this answer. Are you positive that Senna went from 5th to 1st? Forix also has a Lap Chart for each race which shows each driver's position throughout the race and it doesn't show anything about Senna dropping back to 5th but if you are positive about it I will trust you. Please get back to me soon.
Thanks

Because it was at the start, Ayrton was classified as 4th. Classifications are only made at the completion of each lap.
You will find a clip of this opening lap at www.sennadasilva.com

Look in the multimedia section for the Battle at Donington Park.

So technically he was 4th, but actually had to pass 4 drivers to get to the front during that first lap, Schumi, Karl, Damon, and Alain.

Hope you enjoy Monaco, I'd kill for a trip there!!

Thanks a lot senna12 that was really helpful and what a race! I have never seen a clip of Ayrton racing before and that was simply amasing, what a driver!
Such a shame that he's gone

If Im not mistaking, Senna went into the first corner while lying 7th. Karl Wendlinger and Michael Andretti also passed him at the start. He went round the outside at Craner Curves to get Wendlinger.

Amazing stuff
