Yes, there's quite a long article on The Telegraph website. Tesla has announced both a truck & new version of the original Tesla sports car, which they claim will be the fastest production car in the world. At the launch the sports car was driven out of the back of the truck which for some reason immediately made me think of Mike!

The truck they say will have a range of about 500 miles, but the article points out both the enormous cost of replacing truck-size batteries, & the impact the weight will have on the carrying capacity of the truck are a bit of a negative, but as with all things, one has to start somewhere.

It’s an incredibly bold move to build an electric semi, and glad someone has made an attempt. Zero to 60mph in less than most cars..... Load will need to be well tied down! Range half what most diesel trucks can manage, but Tesla will be building bespoke charging stations in the US to cope. Other manufacturers take note! And yes, I want to have the first EV race truck in Europe!

Not sure how this will go down with the average American trucker - they still haven't got their heads round why anyone would want a syncromesh gearbox!

At Ricard I was parked next to a Kenworth show truck that also had a 50’s Corvette in the trailer. It was sponsored by a Swiss Coffee drink manufacturer, who paid for it to drive round Europe to shows etc., promoting their brand. The owner admitted that as a truck it was rubbish (13 speed crash box for starters), but as a promotional tool it was perfect! The superb Italian custom built trailer had steering- not due to the trailer length, but the tractor length.....

Best thing about it was the Jake brake, Colin. It would wake the dead!

I’ve long been a Guy Garvey / Elbow fan, so was not surprised that they did such a good job of covering The Beatles ‘Golden Slumbers’ track (Abbey Road) for that Christmas ad. What I hadn’t realised until reading up a bit on the original, is that the lyrics are from a poem titled ‘Cradle Song’, written by one Thomas Dekker, who died in 1632!

Nothing new under the sun.......

I think I've said it before but I wonder why on the European trucks the Jake brake is quiet compared with the American trucks.

Wake up at the back, please, Will! (See previous page....)

And yes, would love to be the first to have a Tesla race truck!

Tim, I don’t understand it either, but the Kenworth had massive exhaust stacks that could have influenced the noise. Edit.... Just found a proper photo- (in 2017 events ‘Swiss Viper Museum’...)

On the lunchtime news (about Brexit again!) I noticed the Swedish Police convoy had at least one Saab in amongst the Volvos - must be a few years old but it looked to be in pristine condition. Such a shame they don't make them these days.

In other news, reported in today’s Metro (of all places) is the fact that Silverstone Auctions have just sold a boggo 1980 RS2000 for £87k..... OK, only 927 miles on the clock and been caccooned for a lot of its 37 years, but still big money! From pics looks like still on CN36 tyres- are they being remade now?

Amazing how cars like that keep turning up......

Perhaps Masters or somebody will create a new class...

Back to the Tesla truck, did you see Musk claims it won't break down for a million miles?

I’d rather have the Escort!

Yes, Musk gave his personal guarantee that the truck wouldn’t break down during that mileage. Go a couple over, though, and beware.....

Gary, I spotted another 80s 900 3dr locally yesterday, and totally agree. Looking at how Vovo have been rejuvenated with Chinese money, and JLR transformed under Indian ownership, it’s definitely an opportunity missed. Fingers crossed Lotus also benefit from Geely ownership....

Always a good career move in the music business.

Bit of a wait for the royalties mind, in his case. Relatives likely to be a bit annoyed.

Providing they don't ship Lotus production to China!

The renderings for Lotus' forthcoming SUV have a front end that looks disturbingly like a Volvo. As if sticking a Lotus badge on a lumpy SUV wasn't bad enough, making it look like a Swedish taxi would be the final insult for poor old Lotus... ACBC must be turning in his grave.

I often despair at magazine ‘artists impressions’, that are often the current model (if there is one) tweaked a bit and with bigger wheels, or completely off track!

Geely left Vovo to get on with what they do best, and Tata have done the same with JLR, so think positive!

It wasn't a magazine impression, it was on a Lotus Press Release.

Providing they leave Lotus alone to do what they do - fine, so long as there isn't any Volvo interference.

I see you've taken the 'L' out of Volvo - there has to be a joke in there somewhere!

Do the MSA still send out a licence application by post or do you have to download it from the internet now? Just wondered as I have just had the latest MSA missive by email which gives a link to the online application which I can't use as I need a medical.

They’re posting paper forms as normal, but not been sent yet- apparently.

Just checked when I last had my previous medicsl and SECG. Looks like if I’m sharpish can get away with just the med this time....... Luckily I can get that done locally!
