Dutch Touring Cars
I need some info about the Dutch Touring Car Championship, and its plans to convert to a V8Star format. Can anyone tell me more about this?

There will be no V8 star Championship for Holland, only the planned V8 star races .
People are working on a restart of the Dutch Touring Car Championship, combining the cars from Holland to the cars in Belgium. So there will be a Be-Ne series open to DTCC (DTC) cars, FIA Super Production(261) and Belgian Group N as from the 2002 PRO-CAR series. At the middle of this month (December) the decission will be taken if this all goes through. |

Update BE-NE championship.
There will be NO BE-NE Championship, the Belgians will do the trick alone. |

So what now, will the Dutch series carry on regardless?
The latest thing I heard was "Dutch V8STAR in 2004". Right or wrong this time? Last edited by cybersdorf; 14 Dec 2002 at 12:50. |

2004 is still a long way to go, but I think the Dutch promoters of the V8 Championship will try to get a proper championship in 2004, or they will persudae the German Promoter to include as much races in their 2004 championship that it will count towards a Dutch Championship. I doubt if that will be the case as for a Dutch Championship you need at least 7 cars and only one round might be held outside the country of the national championship.........so I think the V8 will go as a FIA International Series...............

An FIA V8STAR series? Somehow I doubt that - the FIA is in bed with the manufacturers (talk about promiscuity) and V8STAR type silhouette series aren't in the manufacturers' interest... Isn't there a similar spec. silhouette series in NL already, with 2l Ford engines? |

It might NOT be a FIA series, but a FIA sanctioned International Series.
There is a somekind of silhoutte seies in Holland called the VEGE series, which started out as a Ford Sierra Championship, but it transformed in a series with fibre glass bodied spaceframed cars with Ford Sierra running gear. Next season they hope to update the engine department with a 2.0 litre Opel Speedster engine.and....this is in fact the starting class for V8 stars.......... |

Why is it the Belgians decided to go it alone after all? Last edited by cybersdorf; 14 Dec 2002 at 17:43. |

Does the world need an international V8STAR series? Anyway, the one advantage of this concept is that technical development (and, therefore, cost) can't go over the top which makes it more predictable. Therefore may be a viable alternative for national championships in smaller countries, where there isn't that much money to go around. And the thing still has some kind of sporting value; the cars are real racers, and challenging to drive. Other than that, I guess it's a bit of a waste of time really. |

The cars on that link are the same as T-Cars in the UK.

T-cars are tubular frame cars with a generic body not designed to look like anything in particular, fitted with 1.6l Vauxhall engine. The same cars are raced in Ireland with bigger engines as RT2000.

Vege series is similar to that.
Tubular frame cars with a generic body. Polyester body on it that you won't see on the normal roads. A complete strange model with familiar looks. The engine is a Ford 2.0 OHC, which will give the cars 200bhp in 2003. |

Do such spec. concepts have enough of a sporting value, and enough "prestige" (or whatever), to be a country's premier TC series? |
