Hard to tell; from the helicopter it doesn't quite look so, but who knows

It would strain credulity to say vilander simply lost it. Would be interesting to see if the rear of the Ferrari has any evidence of contact.

I had a great time. Flashback to Camel GT Labor day races 76-82; except not as dusty or crowded. Some things never change: the bigger the hurry, the more air at 3, the more curb straddled into 4...

Must have been over near us, there were a few who really wanted to hit that inside curb weren't there? Not as bad as the support races, the Porsches were hammering there curb and sliding.
All together I'd say a good race. A bit aggressive from some of the DPi guys and putting cars in places that were optimistic at best, stupid at worst. Penalties a plenty seemed to be the way of the day. Will be interesting to see if that continues at Petit in 6 weeks |

I'm just trying to catch up after missing the race yesterday, and thought this was a strange one. WTR claims Montoya brake checked him, but I can't tell from the replays. It happened right at the pit speed limit cones, so did Briscoe misjudge the closing speed or did Montoya slow more than necessary? Without seeing the speeds of the respective cars I can't tell.

The ONLY excuse I would accept from JPM is the pit lane limiter malfunctioned. They were caught once previously in the team car so maybe. But it's still a weird place to drop the anchor and seemed like he slowed more than needed.
That said, still Briscoe's job to have awareness to stay off the car in front. But I don't know how that works with guys coming in to the pits since you expect full speed and then slam on the brakes to the speed limiter. Everyone has the same limit so you'd expect the car in front wouldn't be slower than usual. Honestly I think the only penalty should be a fine for the driver after race determined to be either slow or fast as neither appeared to be truly impacted by the incident. But I don't think that's in the rule book |

Castroneves pit speed penalty had nothing to do with the limiter setting — he shifted back up into second, which doesn’t have a limiter, so he got dinged. And he knew he did it. |

Missed that on the radio, thanks.
In that case, JPM has zero excuse and for me that's 100% his fault cause that was a hella sudden slow after the markers. |

Well if rear ending someone in pit lane is weird, pilot challenge is asking for someone to hold their beer. One of the mercs stopped going up the hill toward 11. While stationary and hooked up to a truck to tow over the hill, another merc clipped the car. This all happened on the right side of the road, well off the racing line.

Are they in pro or support paddock this year? Didn't think to look yesterday. If support paddock then yeah, no where near the racing line at all.

NBC coverage is WORSE than anything including the rain at Petit 09 with RLM just vamping a while. I turned it on just after the yellow right where I was yesterday and had NO CLUE what was going on or what had happened and still don't 10 min in. However, it's been entertaining to listen to their chatter.
My apologies, may have been just catching them knowing it would be edited later and so just listening to them talk. And looks like many took my plan of in person yesterday and stream or ignore it today. I've seen more at turn 10 for SCCA, wow. And it's a beautiful day, woulda loved today's weather yesterday. Well that was odd team radio not telling the 33 to slow. He was a couple hundred yards in front of the winning Liddell in the Camaro and had to do another lap low on fuel in TCR. Would have been TERRIBLE if he ended like Foss running out on the back stretch.
Now big question. If the TCR leader and ONLY the TCR leader is in front of the GS winner do the TCR guys have to race through the GS for who's slowing? Seems dangerous but the TCR leader technically did not see the checker so do they get to coast around and get the win or if they ran out of fuel would they have lost? |

Good question. My gut says
- Tcr leader passes the line under white flag. - GS leader gets checker and is done - Tcr 2nd place gets checker and is done. No more places to be gained I think different series have different rules on not finishing but keeping the position. Not sure where imsa falls |

That's what TV came up with as well and has to be one thing that makes sense. Of course if rules made sense we wouldn't have debate.
