Montoya or Pruett?

Our news media over here is making a big thing out of Montoya spinning out Pruett with 8 laps left. Your thoughts?

My thoughts? It was definately a clumsy move but, hey, it was yesterday, I'm sure they've each said their piece and I'm sure they've put it behind them. If they can, I'm sure as hell we should be able to as well

It was a poor move.

But watching the race now, his move on lap three was not much different. The only difference was with the later move Pruett closed the door.

It was Montoya's fault for sure, but any sympathy I had for Scott evaporated with his ludicrous slowing down lap barging match.

Pruett's certainly pulled no punches with his comments on Montoya after the race. Maybe it was a heat of the moment thing... but I'm not sure that'll have gone down well with Uncle Chip either.

Unprofessional mistake by JPM. Pruett had same line as lap 3 and it was simply from too far back. I'm disappointed Montoya would say "I screwed up" on the air.

watch more nascar, its a move that DEFINED a certain black cars mystique and popularity. and also having only seen the replay once, if the team is communicating correctly between crew chiefs Pruett should not have tried to close the door on a VERY quickly gaining teammate, esp one thats a better driver. Anybody else think he's got at least a chance to win on either of the other road courses this season, doubted the Ganassi cars but not bad yesterday.

Ummmm F1 anyone....Rubens and Michael?

Racers are there to race, not to willingly let their team mates through.

Almost all drivers will try to close the door. The object is to stay in the lead.

ive read some pretty harsh things that have been said by Pruett , But it seems that Chip was pleased with the final winning driver so looks like there is no problem there . I suppose it comes down to at what point do you close the door or not ?

Typical Juan though , he races to win ...if it was intentional action to take out Pruett then i would be against that , but from what ive read and stuff it seems like it was more a clumsy aggressive move .... i have no problem with that .

A little harsh on Nascar and the media???
Gotta remember. Montoya is one of 43 drivers in a race and IF he ever makes the chase he will still only be one of 12.
Sorry guys, but Nascar isn't "about" Montoya. It is exciting racing with all the drivers bumping and banging.

Heck botsquad, that is a mild article. You can read something like that every time there is an incident in Nascar. The writer of the article was just trying to stir things up a bit. Can you just see Tony or Jeff shaking in their shoes when they see Montoya on the track. I also doubt that Montoya would be afraid of them. That is simply Nascar racing.

Montoya will be treat like any other driver. For all his past and his future, he is one of many NASCAR drivers, albeit a name.

He will be leant on as hard as anybody and he will return the favour.

That is what the sport is about

Yep, I totally agree. If at some point he "moves" a driver out of the way I would expect the driver to re-pay him and vice versa. It happens all the time in Nascar. Again, there are 43 drivers in a Nascar race and Montoya is "one" of them.

Montoya isn't the new face of NASCAR. He's a driver new to stock cars with a proven record in everything he's driven in and the attitude to match. Fans are either going to love him or hate him, and if he performs well, the buzz around the sport will be all for the positive. He's a story, and that's why the media is hyping him up just a little ar the moment. He's going to give them headlines, more than Jimmie Johnson ever has.

Thought I should probably mention this somewhere, I read that Hamlin and Said, er, said that Montoya was jumping restarts by a good 200m, though they said that wasn't so bad, as he was going to win anyway. Someone said when they changed that hoseclamp or whatever in the pits that Montoya merged in with the cars on the track, rather than going to the back?

what was that quote from Days of Thunder -

"rubbin is racing"

He was just rubbin Scott at the wrong place at the wrong time!!!

Montoya should have realised that he was the fastest man in turn 7 by a mile and that would have been his best place to over take and if not possible the next lap it would have given him a huge sling shot down to turn 1

I think JPR realised just how heavy a nascar is and how how hard they are to stop campared to what he is used to!!!
