WPS Racing - Too many drivers, not enough cars?
In the many press releases from this team in recent weeks, it has become clear that the WPS Racing organisation has a number of options on drivers for next season.
We were led to believe that Mr Noske had an option for 2005, we have been invited to understand that Mr McFadyen has an option for a main series drive next year, Mr O'Brien was a driver and then not a driver and then a driver again and then dropped again, while we are told that Mr Yoong has an exercisable option over his services in 2005. And we dont even know what the deal is with Mr McIntyre... but one of WPS's Sandown pilots is joining him in NZTC, presumably with WPS backing... so.... So far, we have 6 drivers, one of whom is no longer with the team, another seems to be back running Carrera Cup, and another without a publicly announced future with the team, so make that 3 drivers, and but 2 cars. Until... ... word around and about suggests that another driver (other than the 5 just listed) is either actually under contract with WPS, under an option, or about to sign a deal for 2005. Now bringing in this current Supercar driver into the WPS lineup would be a method of bringing some more experience to the table.... ... but it obviously generates a hole in the team he currently drives for... I wonder if Mr Porter is ready, willing & able to replace the driver I am thinking of at TKR next season?? So it seems the line up has Mr Besnard and the current TKR fellow in the 2 black and silver WPS beasties... ... operating now under LP's L1 franchise licence slots... Does this remain an embarassment of riches to have so many drivers, or could there be other choices around? |

Having Yoong aboard could be good for sales in Asia and Criag Baird good for expansion into New Zealand?

My guess is the RNR L2 (Davison), LP L2 (Richo) and PLR (Tratt) will form a 3 car team next season. As for Dumbrell....... |

I find it difficult to believe that LP would give up his L1 voting rights so easily.

How significant is this greater pay from a L1 as opposed to a L2?

Ok, I stand corrected, but I still think that there is something going on here, that a staunch Holden man has sold his level one francises to a Ford team, even for mega bucks, is still a strange move.

So is Gore staying with Ford or is he likely to convert and source Holden product ex-Perkins?

It seems the purchase by Mr Gore, agreed this week, but effective 010105, secures 2x L1 franchise licence slots for the fledgling WPS Racing concern.
It also appears that Mr Gore has hung onto his L2, the one sourced from Mr Thexton. It remains unclear what Mr Gore will do with this extra franchise licence slot... but the team is committed to running Fords in 2005... so maybe they will soak up Speedy's unraced BA and make a trio of cars? Mr Besnard is confirmed for 2005, as is Mr Baird. The others it seems have been relegated to bit players |

This must be a major development as Bairdo just did a deal a wee while back for 2 years at TKR.
I am as shocked as the next man |

Dissapointing that Baird is not a man of his word.
He stood in front of 100 plus TKR guests and sponosrs back two months ago and confirmed his ongoing relationship with TKR for the 2005 and 2006 seasons. TKR have purchased a new PMM car and new Motorsport engines for 2005 season already as part of Baird's new contract requests. Obviously money is more important to Baird than ethics despite him saying the opposite in a recent interview in Auto Action. |

Has the Baird rumour actually been confirmed?
Other than on here I mean. |
