MarkR should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
March 84S

Hi,

I'm trying to track down either previous owners of 84S or any one who might have info or better still pictures. I have recently aquired one and I'm trying to restore it back to its original spec.

Any help or comments would be appreciated

Thanks

Mark

Mark,

The only one I recall was the Volvo-engined car run in Thundersports by Richard Bolton / John Lowe in 1985, and run by Demon Tweeks in 86 for Richard Jenvey/Tony Hill.

There'a fairly poor quality photo that I took of the car in Birmingham Superprix qualifying on http://racingsportscars.com/photo/Bi...25-photo.html.

Car is race no. 23

Think there were 2 in UK S2000 in 84, the Bridge brothers definitely had 1, I believe Richard Morgan had another ?? As I recall they were nice little things, not much changed from the original March S2000, the 81S.

Ah right, forgot about the Bridge one.
In fact, I think the T'sports car may have been the ex-Bridge chassis.

Did Morgan have an 81S? Can't remember exactly. According to Mike Lawrence's book, they built 3, but with March, I don't know if they were all new chassis.

Did Dave Benbow run a car for someone in S2000, John Morrison perhaps? Or have the years, cars and drivers all blurred into one again......

Henk

Thanks for your reply. I would really appreciate a copy of the brochure. Can you E-mail it or do you need to post it ?

I have checked Marchives but the only picture available is the one from the March book.

I think only 1 of each March was in the UK S2000 from 81-83. Works ran a car in 81 for amongst others Rob Wilson, maybe Kurt Thiim too. In 82, Dave Benbow had 1, usually for John Morrison, who posts on here/TNF, and in 83, it was Plygrange Racing for Richard Morgan. In 84, Plygrange ran an 84S for Morgan, and the 83S for Ken Gough, as well there was the Bridges 84S.

Mark, I remember a piece about David Benbow DB Motorsport, from Autosport, back in '84. I must have it, can get a scan too, let me know!

It won't let me print another piccy, but try this link for another shot of the March, laeding off the grid at Mallory. I think Mike Taylor went on to win.http://tentenths.com/forum/showthrea...threadid=31740 page 4

My memory wasn't fading, then!! Nice picture John, was the March a nice car to drive as against a Lola or Shrike/Aquila?

Well it was some time ago, but I remember running into a sort of plateau of performance with it. On the limit, it didn't respond to anything imaginative from the driver (obviously of limited capability in this case) so we seemed to get stuck at 1.5 secs off a decent time; something of an aero problem running a tail that long and high.
Whereas the Tiga which I had for a year in a US Pro Series actually went better as you really gave it a really stiff talking to. You could get away with some brave stuff with the Tiga. Very much the same with the 2 litre version; drive it at 9/10th - fairly dopey; drive it 'large' and it really responded. All very much down to Howden Ganley I thought.

Which year car did you drive ? was it an 83 or 84? I think the rear body work on an 84 started to dip downwards behind the rear wheels ?

From memory, and programmes, I think John was in the 82S, run by Dave Benbow. In 83 and 84, John was in Thundersports as I recall.
