Sodding ridiculous would be more accurate, especially considering the quality of the earlier books.

Ferrarimw should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Hi guys,

This is a fantastic thread having read through the posts. I'm a recent collector of these fascinating Le Mans annuals and am enjoying the process of locating the rarer editions!
However I have also come to own two copies of the 1923-1992 Le Mans encyclopaedias. One is for sale, it is is as new condition, if that helps anyone with their collection please email me, I am open to swaps as much as a cash sale and will consider all reasonable offers.
Hs anyone heard anymore about the 2012 annual release date yet? Usually in December if I remember correctly?
Thanks

Congrats by the way on completing your holy grail I started collecting in 1987 and couldn't see the point in going backwards, but 1984, 85 and 86 are very tempting...
Oops, sorry for the confusion, I didn't word it very well. The 94 annual is French as are the 85 and 86 annuals.

Here is my list

English - 78, 79, 84, 87, 88, 89, 90, 91, 92, 95, 98 - 11
French - 80 - 83, 85, 86, 93, 94, 96, 97

I know they are around but I just couldn't get English versions of 93, 96 and 97 at a reasonable price so settled for the French versions. I'll post a picture of the collection soon !!!!

Perhaps more realistic is a collection from 1978-2010 that sold on
ebay for just over £1250, or less than £40 per year. Floor strengthening
will be required soon, especially when you add the 1923-1992 book of
all cars plus the newer 1923-2010 three volume set, which has now
been reduced to 200 Euros.

Yes, that's not a bad price I suppose. There is a similar set from 1978-2011 available now on Ebay.fr for the bargain price of €3000. Postage is "free"

I noticed LeMansRacing had started heavily discounting all of their titles, I hope they are not in any trouble. It is a bit galling though as I shelled out full price for that 1923-2010 set.

Hi, where did you find these encyclopaedias reduced to 200 Euros? Sounds like a bargain!

Just picked up a 2012 annual from hortons at the NEC, it's fantastic. Slightly different design but the contents are as expected, only had a quick flick through and then it's been whisked away until Xmas!

You can buy direct from the publisher: Le Mans Racing

Seems to have gone up to €220, pretty sure it was 200, but still a good offer. They also allow you to pay in instalments if you want.

Ordered my copy yesterday. Looking forward to checking it out. Happily it seems like the rumoured radical direction change hasn't occurred.

Looking for any indication as to the going rate for the following which I am still planning to let go at some point. Just haven't got round to figuring what to do about selling them yet as time is tricky with a two year old and an eight month old in the house Would be very useful if anyone could offer their thoughts on their worth!

Jean-Marc Teissedre, the editor, has passed retirement age. He now lives the dream with a house on the Med near his home town of Narbonne. He has indicated to me that he would rather spend time in the summer months on the beach with his grandchildren, than writing a dumbed down book under artificial deadlines imposed by the ACO. Still he has changed his mind in the past.

I hope to have lunch with him soon when he visits the UK to see the latest addition to the family and will keep you Tenthers up to speed.

Package arrived from France this afternoon with the copies of the annual. Production quality is OK, it has become a picture book with extended captions, I miss the hard analysis that Paul Frere used to bring.

Just about enough room on the LM Annual shelf for it to fit

Happily I have them all (mix of English and French language) accumulated a while back. Does anyone have any idea why the prices have gone through the roof. Are they over optimistic price tags, or genuine demand ? Thanks

Sometimes it's down to algorithms, a couple of people put up their prices and suddenly everyone else's shoots up automatically as a computer program decides there's demand over supply.

Some positive news about the 2013 Annual. I have learnt that the technical analysis is being brought back. My old friend Marcus Schurig, Chief Editor of Sport Auto, has been tasked with providing the technical and sporting analysis - it will be up to the high standards of the late Paul Frere.

Book will be out early as well.

Not sure where else to put this (maybe a new thread?) but it appears the latest edition of Quentin Spurrings latest Le Mans book is due to be released. It's the 90s this time and Whsmith seem to have the best price for preorder.

Wonder who's publishing it? Haynes were withdrawing from the non-manual market, sadly.

I can really recommend these Spurring books.I think they are the best motor racing history books published ever. With the change of publishers I doubt the 4 volumes already published will stay available for long.

I echo the recommendation. I have the first four volumes, which are nicely produced and, as far as I can ascertain, a very accurate history of the greatest race in the world. I'm eagerly awaiting my pre-ordered copy of 1990 to 1999.

Interestingly, my order with W H Smith for the 1990/1999 edition has been cancelled by them - "unavailability of stock"!. I've now ordered from Amazon so we shall see - they have given me a date of 12/15th July.

Thanks to Amazon (you may not approve of their tax arrangements but they are very efficient) my copy of 1990 - 1999 has arrived this morning. Well up to the quality of the previous editions and I would continue with my recommendation that, to those without the space or budget for the 'year books', these books by Quentin Spurring are the next best available record for anybody for whom the 24 hours of Le Mans is the greatest race in the world.
