The best Michael Schumacher season in which he didn't win the title.
Q. Out of the seasons that Michael Schumacher didn't win the title which was his best?
Here is another off-season thread, but what makes a season good, even if you didn't grab the top prize? He's won seven titles, but he has still performed during his seven seasons when he didn't claim the title. In which of these did he drive best? The reasons behind the decision are yours, the priorities are yours, but do share. His finishing position in the championship and the title winner is shown to jog your memory. The best title poll is here. Last edited by Adam43; 5 Jan 2005 at 21:45. |

1997 by far, finishing the way every season should end, with a on-track battle.
The last time before this was 1994, great stuff. |

I think we saw the best of MS from 97 to 2000.
2000 was his best championship and best year overall IMO and considering the drives he put in at Montreal & Hungary in 1998, I'd say that was his best season without finishing up with the title. |

VERY good question adam
Unfortunately it's one i don't think i could answer because i can't remember some of these seasons at all It would be the year he had the most 'raged edge' drives whichever that was There's little better in f1 than shu under pressure, pushing right against the limit of what the car can do.Awsome, just awsome |

1996. He put the car where it didn't belong and made Ferrari believe again.

Have to agree on '96. Spain and Belgium alone were good enough to justify that choice.
I've been a Ferrari fan forever and after the dramatic years of 91-93 there was some relief with Berger winning Germany '94 and Alesi winning Canada '95, but hope didn't really return until '96. |

A chain is only as strong as its weakest link, and so therefore it could not possibly be 1997.

I think he did pretty damn well in 92. He took the opertunity and won at Spa in his first full season in F1.
And 93 was a fairly good year, he had some bad luck with his Ford expiering at Monacco when he was going to win. But I guess I'm not answering which is the best year...hmmm...98. |

1998 for me, he was the only one who could take it to McLaren and Mika that season.

Considering how far back Eddie was in 1996, and the fact that the car had abyslam reliability mid-season as well as looking difficult to drive, Michael worked miracles to win 3 races (including those torrentially wet Spain and Belgium races), finish 3rd in the championship, and almost single-handedly net Ferrari 2nd in the CC.

98 was a stunning year for him, and a genuinly close title, either driver would have been a worthy champion.
Close second must be 96 as that ferrari didn't belong where he put it ! |

The 1996 Ferrari probably still gives Luca de M., Jean Todt and most of us old time Schumacher faithful (Schumossi??) nightmares. What Schumacher accomplished with that car is every bit as impressive as what the did this year.

1999 was looking good until the accident, and he came back in a big way.

1996 was amazing in that he placed the car with 3 victories...an almost impossible task with that ugly pig. That year after his two WDC winning years could have made anyone lose interest in racing..but MS held on. Not forgetting it is also Ferrari's first year back on V10s, and that MS had to race without his trusted team around him. Establishing Ferrari back onto winning ways...really memorable for a Ferrari fan.
If anybody questions "Big deal...it's only 3 wins"...how many other drivers managed 3 wins in a dog car for the past few seasons? 1997 and 1998 were pretty impressive too. Michael had the lesser car, for most of the season by quite a margin... However, he managed to push the championship into the last race of the season in both. Pity that both races ended in ways that do not complement the great way Michael fought. 1999 Malaysia GP was simply awesome. |
