GT World Challenge Australia 2021

Two weekends from the start of the season, with 2 cars announced so far!!

Hopefully we can see a 10+ grid of GT3's supported by some GT4's, but I struggle to see anything substantial happening in 2021, I think 2022 will be the year for the SRO to really stamp their mark.

Despite only 2 entries being announced with the impending race so soon, they are both pretty solid entries. To get a combo of SVG/Whincup, and Mostert showing off these cars in SRO sprint format is great. Lets hope we see a few more touring car pro's, and some young blood in the mix too.

Previous GT3 entrant Fraser Ross has been out testing a GT4 Mclaren, 59 Racing who had run the GT3 Mclarens previously have sold the cars, with the promise of something new coming.

2021 GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS Schedule:
Feb. 20-21 – Phillip Island
Apr. 3-4 – Bathurst
May. 8-9 – The Bend Motorsport Park
TBA – round four
Sep. 11-12 – Sandown
TBA – Bathurst

Grid So Far:

GT3 Class - 2 Cars

Melbourne Performance Centre - Audi R8 LMS GT3 - Chaz Mostert / Tony Bates
Triple Eight Engineering - Mercedes AMG GT3 - Jeffrey Ibrahim / [Shane van Gisbergen / Jamie Whincup]

DPM Camaro
Article on socials also suggests they are expecting 20 plus cars across GT3 and GT4

Be nice to see that venerable Camaro racing again this year.

Let’s hope all 9 testing run, a 20+ combined GT3/GT4 would be a success given the last few years

A couple of interesting races with Sunday's race being a cracker between Mostert, Whincup and Tander prior to the pitstops and continued when the AM drivers took over.

Some nice racing this weekend, actually quite nice to see some of the older gen GT3's out again. That Camaro is and always will be a tank. Part of the fun of GT3 racing.

I hope we see a few more cars appear through the season, namely a few more to give the Tander, Mostert and Whincup/SVG cars a fight.

Glad to see also it still felt distinctly like an Aussie GT race, but with the added polish of GTWC formatting

Great to see so many nice cars in GT at PI. Start of a new era for Australian GT I hope.

I was surprised that they started the clock once the formation lap begins rather than the actual start of the race. For a series that wants to attract & keep paying drivers im not sure its a great thing to take 10% of the race away with a formation lap..

Good racing in race 1 at Bathurst. SVG cannot be beat in anything at the moment. Good to see some of the older GT3 cars running at the front.

Anyone know why Aus GT isn’t streaming on YouTube as usual this weekend?

Something to do with the V8 Supercars media rights. They cant stream the races that are supporting the Supercars event.

So how do they benefit from being on the supercars package

Thought that silliness was done with since the SRO buy in
