The Ferrari puzzle
Apparently the piston problem that has plagued the Ferrari motors is not "resolved (per se)" contrary to what has been reported on some web sites. According to the Speed commentators in practice, the adhoc solution is merely to detune the motor to a redline closer to 18 k.
On another note, there is some speculation that the Bridgestone's may prevail in the cooler temperatures. These 2 factors could even out, to put Ferrari on pace, but we'll see. Me thinks it could be a long race for Mickey and Filipe. Any thoughts? |

As an example of the positive reporting Kirk refers to, see this F1Racing.net article.

If its still affecting the Ferrari's I can see it being resolved when they get back to Europe. I can't imagine Ferrari leaving it to chance, I would have thought they would have strengthened the pistons if they knew it could be a problem. We shall see tomorrow no doubt.

Ferrari never admit they have "problems" anyway. Its a mind game a lot of the teams play to unsettle and confuse rivals.
They might really have a severe problem with the engine, but they probably wont admit it. |

To be fair, they couldn't really not admit it could they? The cars were either breaking down or moving back ten places on the grid!
You can't hide with mechanical problems. |

For example:"We appear to have a piston ring problem" = They keep welding themselves to the rest of the engine. |

Same result in the end though.
They can downplay it, but we can see through it. At least they aren't downplaying it to the extent Mercedes did at the start of 2004, that was a joke! |

It is a bit hard to slam Ferrari with downplaying their problems when you think about the merc-badged Illmor engine disaster that has costed Mclaren their stardesigner and main sponsor.

I don't think anyone is slamming them as such.....that's a bit of a tabloid proclamation!
And welcome to the forum! I'm sure you'll enjoy it! |

Yes, but that's besides the point. They were thought to be about to expire......
They didn't change the engines because they were bored. |
