Last years A1GP cars - where now?

It continues to intrigue me that there are always new single seater series being created, so what now happens to the out of date A1GP cars? They are far too new to race in a classic series for at least 15 years and as there were only a handful built, what is their fate?

Along with a multitude of past failed formulae, there must be thousands of retired single seaters not really fit for anything much.

I never really was a fan of one make stuff, as although it supposedly provides a level playing field and theoretically costs can be controlled, it just doesn't have the attraction of a series where the cars look different. Many are manufacturer supported and as one visitor to A1GP in Taupo observed, the only cars in the paddock attracting any real interest from the spectators, were the Muscle Cars.

Maybe time now for a genuine international Formula Libre series so that there are large grids and somewhere for them to race, including the cars that have been modified or repowered from standard.

I can't really see an International Formula Libre Championship ever taking off. Given the large number of series at sub F1 level, racing in out of date single seaters in hardly likely to appeal to significant numbers of career orientated drivers. As an amateur series, the shear cost involved is likely to deter all but the most wealthy of competitors. I'm basing this on the popularity of EuroBOSS, which is essentially a European equivalent of what is suggested and doesn't generally attract significantly huge grids.

rychard has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
So where are the old cars or are they going to become the A2GP class? They had a A3 class in South Africa a few years ago, but that became Formula VW.

It is hard to see A2GP happening any time soon, and even if it did it is apparently included in the Ferrari contract.

So would that mean they need an entirely new chassis and ferrari engine orcould you cram a ferrari donk into the old car.

The Dutch one appears at Zandvoort occasionally, Indonesia's one is now at Lippo and the Chinese car has shrunk and is now in Nurnberg on display at the toy fair.

That would be ironic considering the old cars were faster at Taupo than the Ferraris.

Old Lola should have done another year, then the new cars with old Zytek engine come into use in 2009/10 season. Could have re badged it Ferrari,( but not for the CURRENT COST 80mil+ )

Valker posted this link in the NISS forum: http://www.euroseries3000.com/new/news.asp?id=574

The Lola A1GP has been modified into/monocoque used as a base for the Lola B0552, which will be raced in Euroseries 3000 from this season. 20 cars have been bought, with 10 already booked by teams (=sold on?). This year it will race alongside the current Lola B02/50, with the older car being phased out for 2010. Didn't see this one coming!
