"What a load of old ball joints"

I've just had my track car (mk2 Golf gti 16v 1989) checked over by a very reliable techie. He tells me that I need a new lower ball joint. He ordered the part but when it arrived it didn't fit. He says that the shaft of the joint is 19mm but the new one is coming in at only 17mm. (blahblah to me!)

He has tried a mk1-mk2-and mk3 ball joint but none of them fit. He is going to re-order from a different supplier just to make sure it wasn't the wrong part in the box.

Anyone had this sort of problem before. I guess that who ever owned the car before me (Maurice Reeves) could have moded it!!!!!! and that's why the bits don't fit. If you see this Maurice, give us a bell. The car is going just fine thanks!

Cheers. x
