More historic historic racing; Donington International Classic Car weekend, 19 July 1980. AMOC Thoroughbred Sports Car Championship, lots of flared trousers watching the grid, then 35 Roger Saul / F-N Sebring, 77 Robert Ryles / 356B, 41 Paul Howarth and 38 Darryl Uprichard in TR2s.
Willhire Historic Special GTs, Michael Salmon / GT40 and John Foulston / M1B. |

Donington 19 July 1980 again: HSCC Classic Sports Car Championship start with Martin Colvill lighting up the tyres, then 62 Mike Harrison / Elva 7S leading John Harper / Merlyn Mk6, and Amschel Rothschild in his Daytona Cobra.
MG T register championship race, 7 David Clewley / TB, don't know the red one. |

Some fabulous shots there AG, did you have trackside access or a very long lens?
You must have quite an archive, keep it up the more the merrier. Cheers, Baub. |

Thanks Bob, all pics taken with budget long lenses from public areas- but you could get much closer to the action back then. I'm only posting the best ones, thoroughly photoshopped; most of my results were out of focus, blurred, underexposed or combination thereof. Here a few from the Historic Sports-Racing and Single Seater race: 16 Kenny Gray / Cooper Climax F2, the all-conquering Cooper Monaco of John Harper, Peter Martin 250F and Paul Grist in the Talbot Lago 26F. Then Pre-57 saloons, Graig Hinton in the MkVII and Terry Heley in the Zodiac alongside the Magnette of Roger Andreason.

Bob, I suppose after reading some of JR's posts about the originality of some of hysterical cars one sees on the tracks that one should add a certain caveat about vehicles being older or not!

1984 Multipart Truck Grand Prix Donington Park
Maybe not every-ones cup of tea but being brought up and introduced to motorsport by watching all of the diverse things occasionally shown on Grandstand on a Saturday afternoon I'm pretty open-minded about it. If it's got an engine, and it's racing, that's motorsport as far as I'm concerned.
Oh, and an added bonus to entice me to travel the 24 miles from home, this race meeting had free admission! |

Zandvoort 1987
In 1987 I went to Zandvoort for a round of the UK Porsche Championship. I was amazed by the slipstreaming Toyotas Starlets and was surprised to see an Andy Rouse built Sierra Cosworth. (Andy was there for the practice and he was surprised to see me!)

Special Saloons from the 1980's
Here are some pictures from Cadwell Park (1982) and Mallory Park (1983 I think). Showing Baby Bertha in a couple of different colour schemes and a nive MkI Escort belonging to a TenTenther.
