Restarting after a gap
Hi Guys
This is a thread i started elsewhere but it actually probably makes more sense here as its FF1600 i'm restarting. Its some time since i ran my old car - it had had 4 races since a rebuild if i remember correctly, but has now sat idle for a few years. I'm intending to have a look at it in the next week or so - Looking for some advice though: How long do you think its likely to be able to put up with being left alone? How much work is likely to be needed to get raceworthy again? Am i likely going to need a proper rebuild? Finally is there somewhere i can get some used rubber, just past its best for racing, but with enough on it to at lest get me going again in the short term? |

Seatbelts and extinguisher spring to mind immediately.
Had you deflated the tyres prior to storing the car? If so, leave them in the sun for a day or so and they should be good for a test day. Not great, but they will get you through it. |

Extinguisher is definitely out of date and in need of replacement.
What's the deal concerning belts? |

If the engine turns over, change the water belt, engine oil, gear oil, brake & clutch fluid, water (probably run a cleaner through it). I'd replace all the rubber hoses too.
Check the brake caliper piston seals too. The valve springs might be weaker if left compressed for years too. You'll need to fit a transponder too when you race. |
