Off throttle blowing.
I know it's been done to death, but apparently some teams were still trying to get the rules changed as late as today!
Ferrari, Sauber and HRT have blocked the move to allow off throttle blowing. This, apparently, has left some teams with cars that may not be designed correctly for the 2012 season. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/96112 |

Well at least it's better to have too large fuel tank rather than a virgin spec too small a fuel tank

Possibly my main reason for seeing the back of it as well.

The teams wanting the blown diffuser knew it was going to be banned months ago, I can't believe it but for once Ferrari are correct IMO!

Sorry for the old thread revival..but just watching Brazil FP here and they said that the blown diffusers will be banned for 2012.
Why did Ferrari etc want it blocked, and why is it being banned for next year? |

Ferrari (among the top teams) have the least advanced off-throttle mapping. It's banned for next year because it's using extra fuel (non-eco-friendly) and it's using the engine in a way that the FIA don't like (to produce downforce rather than to output torque to the rear wheels)

Ahh yeah,I didnt really think that through.Dumping fuel off the throttle is very eco-friendly right enough! |

Ted Kravitz (BBC) was watching the cars today, and noticed that the McLaren and Red Bull cars were noticeably noisier 'off-throttle' than other cars.
He also said that any loophole found by any team to try and re-introduce off-throttle blowing diffusers for next season, would be immediately banned. Good thing too, the noise is appalling. |

Appalling? I think it's amazing. That crackle almost sounds like sports cars during braking. At least the teams will be equal in terms of pure engine performance next year. Not 'equal', but may the best HP win. Then again, with RB proving again, power isn't everything.
