Patrick would have been a great choice.

My french is pretty weak, but from what I could gather from the RDS article, Pat wanted to take the ride with NH(sounds like reported fued with Cheever had some substance after all). That bodes well for next season, perhaps we will see Patreek back in CC.

In the article in French, Carpentier says he "likes the IRL very much"

It says he likes the IRL. It doesn't say he likes Cheever!

It's a real shame for Junquiera. I hope he's better soon.
McDowell (Grand Am, and I think ALMS) and Gidley (Grand Am and World Challange) have committments too, but I don't the schedules. Boris Said seems to be driving a car in every series right now, why not Champ Car? He's a heck of a driver. Papis has committments in Grand Am and World challange as well. From RM's article on the series site. Bourdais: "If we had one series, and all the Champ Car guys were here, that wouldn't have happened because he (Foyt) wouldn't have been in the race," said Bourdais, who was visibly shaken by the news of his teammate's injury. "It's just a shame for Bruno, so unnecessary." That comment is kind of mean, but understandable under the circumstances. We don't tend see much of the Junquiera/Bourdais relationship, but I think this would suggest they're fairly close. |

It's quite possible that they'lkl hire an oval specialist for Milwaukee, and then consider brining in a long-term replacement after that, depending on whether Bruno is likely to return this season. Boris Said would be great for publicity, as would Kenny Brack. There are hundreds of names in the hunt really.

Boris Said is a big guy and would be hard pressed to squeeze into the car.

Looks like it will be Fittpaldi or Haberfeld.

I'm surprised that names such as Fabrizio del Monte or Jorge Goeters haven't surfaced?

There was this big article in the local paper today (Kenny's not from too far away from where I currently live) about him being offered the Newman/Haas seat.
"No comment", Kenny said. I think it's wishfull thinking from the newspaper's part. But it would be pretty cool, at least for us swedes. |

I think Brack would be a good choice. Fittipaldi is tied up in Brazilian stock cars I think, and Haberfeld is a bit of a wild card IMO.
My only concerns with Brack would be his fitness; but I imagine Rahal wouldn't have put him in the seat if he didn't consider him fit enough. |

Here's hoping Bracks back.
Didn't have the machine at Indy (darn gremlins! bright light!), be great to see if he can show he can still race at the top with who better than Newman-Haas. |

Boris Said is 6'0" and weighs 180lbs.
EDIT - When it comes to Kenny, I think his oval track record in Champ Car is worth remembering as well, as four out of his five Champ Car victories came at relatively low-banked ovals (the 2001 win at Milwaukee included). |

Brack's Oval prowess is what almost won him the championship. However his lack of results in comparison on road courses were his downfall.
Saying that I still think he would be a good choice for Newman-Haas! |

The irony is that in his rookie season in ChampCars, Kenny finished every road/street race. Considering his European background his oval form is amazing, but in 2001 it was mainly the ovals which kept him in the title hunt - I think he would have missed the championship top 10 on purely the road/street races, I remember making that point in one of my earliest posts on here - so it might be tough for him to come back to a championship with few oval races.

I'm going for Haberfeld. He was the last man without a seat when the bidding closed this year and he's, um, Brazilian .. as well as very good to watch.
I don't think Bruno would be amused to think of Mr. Bell in his car. Personally I'd keep a fire extinguisher handy if Boris and PT were in the same series. The world is not ready for that! (I like both men but not in the same place, and you know Paul Gentilozzi hates Boris and the feeling is mutual.) |
