If you read that interview the answer is easy to see - if I read it correctly, Symonds is saying that the rules have it that the driver must modulate the throttle on his own, whereas they neglect to say anything about other means to control the engine, such as fuel supply and ignition. Seems like a stupid error in the phrasing of the rules, although judging by the lack of wheelspin in general over the whole grid I'd have to say that all the teams are at it - it's just that Renault are doing it better.
BTW, I'm pretty sure that Alonso would have been over the 62mph cut-off point when he was accelerating down the grass, so any TC would be alowed then anyway. |
