Vandas should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Phillip Island Konica Series Round

So who's going?
Will Simon Wills make an appearance?
Will Brede and NRC step up for their new sponsor?
Who is going to come and say hello to me, while I work on the grid from Friday to Sunday? hehehe
Tell me what you think, what you are up to etc. I would like to know,

see you all there,

Cameron

Thankyou very much for the kind words!!!

Simon is making an appearance again at Phillip Island in his car which he has used so far up to this point in the championship!

I think that Simon, Truckie Parsons, Owen Kelly, Michael Simpson and I will be fairly quick down at the island, but you can never discount Dale Breede, as it is their test track!

Should be a good days racing, and i will try to bring the big one home for all of you boys!!!

Cheers

Paul Dumbrell

If anyone is heading down to the island, come and pop your head in to our garage and say hello!

Hehe, that's the spirit!

Is there any truth to the rumour (that I'm starting here and now) that a part of your success is due to the fact that Gibson has been fitting Craig's Ford powerplant in the Commodore??

I'm surprised about the amount of speed Brede has gotten out of his car so far, even when they first took it out to test, it was right on the pace. I can't ever remember Chris Smerdon being that fast in it...

Also, I guess I'll have to look up the entry list myself, but who will be driving the ex-Canto EL? Remember, that car was very quick on the Island last year, and in the right hands it could be potent.

And I guess everyone around here would be very quick to lay brown stuff on the age of Romano's VS, but by my reckoning, the car that Kelly is driving would only be 9 or 10 months younger. Also it has had as many drivers as any car I can remember, Paul, didn't you race it at Bathurst a couple of years ago? The fact that old beast is still capable of winning races is pretty amazing...

Ahh, nice to see you have found this site as well Paul.

Anyway I will see you on the grid at the Island. Hopefully you won't have to see my Dad, he is your Clerk of Course for the meeting.

If I get a chance I'll stick my head in and say hello. I also have to go and have a chat to a few of the GTP guys (now is it just my imagination or are there a heap of QLDers in GTP?)

Will you be down there on the Friday? I am going down on Thursday night so will be at the track from Friday onwards. My role on Friday ad Saturday is usually pretty non-existent, but I might take the course car for a lap or two on Friday (seeing as my Uncle drives it, hehehe).

Well good luck anyway,

I'll see you down there,

Cameron

Good luck Paul

Not sure I'd want to pick a winner out of the Konica mob as really there are a few who could easily win it. Well, when I say easily...you know what I mean. Anyway, they've all been mentioned already, except no one has mentioned Leanne Ferrier at all.

Simon was 3rd on the sheets after 2nd practise, but didnt qualify due to a possible blown head gasket, but he will start tommorow.

Series points

Just been going through the allocation of series points for the Konica Series and found something interesting.

AVESCO allocate points down to 32nd place - regardless of whether the car finishes or not - OK not too many problems as this is similar to US NASCAR style point scoring.

Except for cars that do not finish the first lap - like Simon Wills at Winton.

Based solely on race results he picked up 90 points for a win in race 1.

Race 2 he didn't complete a lap BUT AVESCO have awarded him 30 points - equivalent to 18th position.

Considering how many cars didn't finish lap 1, how can ANYONE decide he was in 18th position *at the control line*.

This could conceivably present an interesting situation towards the end of the season if Wills is leading the championship by less than 30 points.

Paul Dumbrell - your comment please?

konica Stats to Round 4

No results - just stats..

After 4 rounds of the Konica V8 Series, 189 laps have been scheduled with 198 actually raced - 9 laps under safety cars. These 9 laps have been run under 4 seperate safety car periods with 20 mins 10 secs lost to safety car periods. 579 km's have so far been raced.

In the 12 races so far run a total of 241 cars have faced the starter - but only 213 or 88% have actually been classified as finishers.

4 hours 27 min 24 seconds of racing, including the 20 min of safety periods, has been spent racing.

The largest gap from first to second has been 6.1176 secs (Oran Park race 1) with the closest being 0.0056 secs (Phillip Island Race 3).

So far Holden have taken all 12 Pole Positions - Race 1 pole being set in Qualifying and Race 2 and 3 from results of Races 1 and 2 respectively.

To date, only 1 lap record has been set in the series - that being at Wakefield Park, however, considering the series is not seperate, for record purposes, from the V8 Supercar Chell Championship Series this is not surprising. However, what is surprising is that at both Winton and Phillip Island the Qualifying Pole Position time WAS under the existing lap record (remember that lap records must be set during a race to be recognised).

During Qualifying Sessions 20 different drivers have held Pole Position at some stage during Qualifying - they may only have held Pole for 5 or 6 seconds but, if the session had been stopped at that point, they WOULD have been classified on Pole. Similarly during races, a total of 89 drivers have held fastest lap at some point during each of the races.

Seven drivers have so far been on Pole Position during the series:

Wills - 4
Dumbrell - 3
Shaw - 1
Ferrier - 1
Parsons - 1
Mullan - 1
Kelly - 1

Only three drivers have been credited with setting fastest laps during racing so far - however, remember that this is that last driver in each race to have set fastest lap. They are:

Will - 6
Dumbrell - 5
Parsons - 1

Including Round 4, Holden have held all available pole positions and won every race to date. Ford have, however, managed to lead 6 of the total of 191 laps contested - or 3%. Holden have also set every final fastest lap recorded in all races.

Seven drivers have led a race at one stage or another so far:

Wills 68 36%
Parsons 34 18%
Dumbrell 29 15%
Kelly 25 13%
Brede 15 8%
Ferrier 14 7%
Harris 6 3%

No driver has managed to complete every lap raced, the closest being Kelly and Wills each with 159 laps raced or 84% of the total.

Driver Vehicle Laps Raced Poles No Wins Race F/L's Laps Led % Season

How big is a Bee's Dick?

Never managed to measure a bee's dick so not sure - but .0056 sec is the smallest gap so far.

Now all we need is overtaking in the races!

22 seconds hey??

Hmmm, how much did Lowndes/Ambrose get penalised at EC, and how much should they have been penalised?

Don't you think they could get a car to do a drive through penalty at each track, because I'm certain it would vary from circuit to circuit...

Vandas should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Well, it was a very quiet weekend down at the Island, except for the big roll over at Southern Loop which saw the GTP car roll onto a spectator fence, and smash its rear window on one of the poles.

The Konica Cars looked superb, from a distance, however on closer inspection you could see the battle scars of these tough vehicles.

Garth was there for Leanne all weekend, he was spotted with a tyre gauge in hand, and was by her side before every race, giving her a couple of words of advice. What a caring boyfriend!

Wills was quick, as was Paul Dumbrell.

Owen Kelly wasn't too happy about a session continuing with his car in a delicate spot at Southern Loop. When he queried the Sector Marshal the reply came back quickly, well if you don't like it why did you park it there.

The reason he wasn't happy of course was because he wanted a red flag, so that he could jump back in his car and continue to qualify. However due to television and AVESCO/CAMS regulations, timing is everything and officialdom deemed the car to be in a safe position. which was proved correct by the fact that no further damage was done to the car after the initial incident which put it there.

Anyway, all in all the weekend was a lot of fun, and there was some really exciting racing.

Couple of photos of it were published in the Melbourne Herald Sun on Monday - p66. Car was Jim McKinnons Holden Astra.
