Backagain has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
They could run with the Excels although they may get left well behind. Do we really need another feeder series especially one that's as boring as bat***t to watch ?

A sorted TCR car will lap around the same pace as an average GT4 car at most circuits.

They're lightyears ahead of an Excel or Pulsar in terms of build and specs, let alone pace.

Will there ever be enough to run as their own class?

Sure they can run with AGT and at the 12hr but they are too expensive for what they are.

It is probably though a sort of modern version of how racing was in the early 70's, if we're honest.

I think the manufacturer interest will be in selling cars and making profit, and having other people do their advertising for them, rather than factory cars.

They're apparently fairly cheap to run. Sure, they're expensive to buy upfront, but they hold their value pretty well.

A lot of smaller teams are running them with crews of 2 or 3. No ongoing development costs, as that's done year on year by the constructor.

I'm not really sure where they'll fit in. Probably AGT Trophy.

There's two 2017-build Audis on RacecarsDirect for ~$170,000AUD each.

Seems to be about the going rate for most TCR cars.

We can't afford all the series we have now. But that hasn't stopped them getting approved to be on the grid, why not allow another one?

At least this one is something different

Can't say I'm particularly interested in the TCR cars themselves, but sure we can all see that the text I've quoted is an excellent thing that many championships should be striving for?

Imagine if we could say the same thing for Supercars??

Until they get scratched, and need to be air freighted back to the motherland for repair. Ala Audi R8...

Happens far less these days and you’re talking about a GT car with a BIG scratch. TCR should be an easier fix as much closer to a production shell then a GT3 has evolved to. If it’s a VAG car then MPC will have that covered. Audi know how good they are for fixing bent cars.

TCR is not a bad thing. Simple cars, low running costs. No need for 100k engines or a garage full of people ....TCR championships all over the world you can run in if the heart desires. Can’t see it picking up big time in Australia mainly because the cars won’t really appeal. It’ll pick up some interest though from those who think GT and Aussie Supercars are expensive.

TCR is the GT3 for touring cars. It’s not going anywhere for at least the next decade at least not in Europe anyway.

Be interested to see how much VW wants for a new shell when inevitably it is required, and how well your team of 3 people can re-shell a car like this...
