I think it's a good move. He has to show himself a level above his peers, and he hasn't. So get a load of F3 experience and return to the UK to fight again, having got an advantage over those of this year's opponents who can progress. F3 is more important to the upper echelon folk than FR, so he can concentrate on that and try get the "unfair advantage". If you've got the backing and the money, why not? I would, if I was in his shoes.

why not race FRS and test F3 in quiet, then when you show up for your first F3 race people are blown away. I cant see jumping into the midst of the Euro F3 season as being a step forward, or even sideways

He should stay.
Only because he along with Conway, Sisley, Lloyd and Rossiter are making this years championship very open.

Could he not enter ramdom F3 races while still competing in the FRenault championship or is that impractical.

I've always been told that if a driver tests F3, it will mess him up to go back to FR (same as they say from FR back to FF). Wesley Barber did ok last year, though, and Tom Sisley has come back, so maybe they were wrong

Expensive to do both

Hamilton isn't going anywhere. I don't know where all these rumours are coming from - is it just because he's entering the german round of the f renault championship to get the publicity side of things going?

he wont do well anyways...he doesnt have the expierence and doesnt know the tracks, so it will be very very tough for him, if he proofs himself , good for him, but i think that the risk is far too high he should stay where he is and step up next year, cause if he doesnt manage to beat rosberg for example, it might do harm to his career

Jinxy you would say its a good move so your lad finishes higher up the tree mate! lol
I personally think its a bad move and i couldnt really see Mclaren letting or wanting this to happen.
It would look like Lewis couldnt Hack it in the ivory jacket.
Anyway it wont happen its all ****

Au contraire, 105octane, I would rather Lewis stayed. More than that, as I have said before, I would love it if Hamilton and Lloyd were team mates.

There is a lot of talk/speculation about Lewis being pulled out of FR. It is believable, as it has happened before where he isn't winning. My point was that Hamilton was fancied to walk it this year, to justify the hype etc, and to further comparison with Pizzonia and Raikonnen, the Manor drivers before him. If it isn't going to happen that way, then what would YOU do if you had invested hundreds of thousands of pounds in this driver?

Shamelessly, if I could afford it, I would do what is rumoured, which is to stick him in Euro F3, where he will get loads of ewxperience but will not need results, and then he can blitz the opposition in UK F3 next year. And if he didn't manage that, then I would be a very depressed investor.

I didn't know he/they/any of the UK guys were doing German FR. Kind of a roundabout (expensive) way of getting extra testing. I'm sure it's legal, but it seems rather against the idea of limiting testing. <jealous>

I think it never looks good to quit just because things are tough - it's not like he's run out of money. He's still young so even if he finishes this year without a cship win, it's still experience in every way (not just racing, but pressure, fitness, character-building) and he'll be able to do a full F3 season next year in the uk.

Anyway, if it's just rumours it doesn't matter, but for any driver it's my belief that it's more beneficial to see a series through to the end than jump around lots of different things during the year.

I agree sqrok most people will say if he cant win in formula renault what chance will he have in f3. not a good look in my point of view. sorry jinxy not many times do i disagree with what you say but i think your wrong on this one.If it was me i would want to give the championship a fair shot purely to put the critics at bay.

He will get more respect if he stays and fights (and even loses) than if he goes off somewhere else.
In fact, losing could be the biggest lesson he's had so far, which might very well serve him for the future with Uncle Ron's team...

Maybe the guys in the silver/grey overalls have decided to fast track him to F1, to replace DC at the end of the year or have him as their test driver in 04

Kimi is proof that you can make the step up to F1 from FRenault
