Pace Car
I think I might of been bored at 3am this morning so started to drift into semi-mad state. Anyway I was looking at the picture of the pitlane and there was the Merc Pace car and next to it was a BMW (5 or 7) with what looked like lights on top of it was that a pace car for a different race or is it the doctors car etc... sorry this is off topic but as a Williams supported I had to take my mind of things!

That pace car is a monster. At Spa in 2002 it pulled up next to where we were at Blanchimont to pick up a small piece of debris on the track. When the guy got back in the car he roared off. The sound and sight was gogeous.
In F1, even the pace car is impressive. But then when in use the thing is almost flat out while the F1's are just trundling behind it. It hits home what monsters these F1 cars really are. Doubly amazing is how small the things are too. I've had the opportunity to be able to touch an FW24 and the whole thing is just tiny. But I digress... |

The pace car this year is new.The same car was unveiled in Geneva the day before the AGP started.DC gave the new pace car a work out before the GP at Phillip Island on the Wednesday.Mercedes people were worried that the press in Melb would see it before its unveiling in Geneva but none of the press in Melbourne were aloud to go nere it and after DC had finished it was put into a transporter and shipped to Albert Park.

There was a 635 (or something like that) BMW used at the AGP (the BMW supplies FIV & course cars including the Safety cars for support events at the AGP) that had a combined red/green light bar on it that was used to open & close the course for events (the Mercs are used for F1 only).
That might've been what you saw. I haven't seen any footage on TV yet so cant comment on the parking arrangements around pit exit this year. |

Doing my chauffeur bit to the airport on Monday for Anthony, we were passed by one of those Mercs...and he says...I forgot to tell you I drove the F1 pace car at Indy last year, it's quite something!...Well we'd all forget to mention an experience like that wouldn't we!
