Initial walk up from the car park highlights the difference with spick and span MSV properties. However, lots of spectating points with less fencing the might be expected and actually a decent facility all in all. Spectator snappers guide to Thruxton will be available soon on pistonclick.com (i.e. when I have written it). Entries for some races disappointing low and not all races that exciting but locating at chicane for the afternoon provided a decent level of entertainment. Last visit was 25 years ago, next one will be sooner !

Enjoyed yesterday. Took too many photos but it's hard not too.
Spent all day around the complex wandering to different points and the crowd seemed in good form. Some good battles and much late braking over this side of the circuit. Once the first qually is run I will wander over and check out the paddock. Currently sunny and warm, rain due later. |

There was a beautiful Zagato bodied Lister in the paddock yesterday. The bike is pretty awesome too.

Just in from an enjoyable weekend of Historic Racing at Thruxton which even a deflating air bed in our tent couldn't spoil !
Agree with Chunterer regarding the rehashing of the Historic calendar . Everything needs spacing out although of course European meetings also need to be considered . As far as Testing is concerned , Thruxton is apparently allowed a measly four days most of which are taken by the BTCC and BSB competitors , so Testing or the lack of is still a big problem at Thruxton . Highlights of the meeting for me were the pair of action packed Sports 2000 races , the BBMF aircraft , the two Group 2 Capris wailing round the circuit in unison but also the cars in the high speed demonstration at lunchtime . An ex Marco Apicella F3000 and former Formula Ford 2000 and Historic hotshot Steve Farthing's F5000 Lola T332 in particular served as a reminder of what is missing from most race meetings these days . |

We followed a road registered Lola T70 into the circuit on Sunday which made an interesting start to the day!
As has already been said, the grids were a little thin with the exception of the packed sports 2000 races, the leading lap times down in the 1:15 region, pretty impressive in the early summer sunshine. The entry lists didn't lack for quality as such, there were some wonderfully prepared machinery competing particularly in the tin top classes. Such a shame that Steve Dance's Capri turned into a smoke machine causing it's retirement and unfortunately the weather didn't play ball with some very cold showers moving in pm. I watched Delta's progress with interesting from the complex in the FJ's and whilst the rear engined Lola looked more than competitive, the Gemini appeared to have a gearbox problem in the front engine field. All in all a very entertaining event, well organised with informative commentary as usual from Marcus Pye and the lunch break demos were very special as was the DC4 in the air. Thanks to all, I just hope the annual meeting can gather some momentum in future years. |

I guess HF2 is just a day dream but Atlantics would be wonderful. The demo bought back memories of how good these cars are to watch. Classic F3 would be very appropriate too

Agreed. I was there. Can't see them coming to Thruxton anytime soon though despite their huge history there.

Great pics, everyone! Anyone know what the problem was with Mr Dance’s Capri? Is that steam or oil smoke? Last time out they had a header tank split.....

I'm sure the pitlane commentator said that the rear end was covered in oil . I think Steve Dance was eventually black flagged which would suggest oil . Unfortunately a couple of the Group 1 Capris also expired in clouds of smoke .
