Giving Marshals A Bad Name

Two friends of mine were patrolling a motorway in the last week, and whilst on patrol they spotted a pedestrian dressed in dark clothinng walking along the hard shoulder of the motorway.
They pulled over and approached the pedestrian, who it turns out was walking home and when told that he should'nt be on the motorways and questionned as to where he was going to, he rplied that he knew what he was doing as he was a race marshal in his spare time!!!.
He then carried on walking along the motorway before disappearing into some bushes to get away from the patrol. Only to be spotted half an hour later.

As marshals, who in their right mind would walk along the side of a live track, let alone a motorway.

And also give race marshals a bad name!!!!!!!!!

Just because someone says they are something doesn't mean they actually are.

I hazard a guess your friends are HATO in which case lying to them is not an offence.

Even if it is true, if they have anything about them they won't immediately tar all marshals with the same brush.

No more than I would tar all HATO's together.

"lying to them is not an offence" TRUE, but walking on a motorway is, also 1 week previously a police officer was mown own by a motorist on the same stretch of motorway and is fighting for his life.

I don't think I know any marshals who would describe themselves as a "race marshal". Motor racing or motorsport marshal, yes. Given the term I'd hazard a guess he might do bikes (of the pedal variety), so is indeed used to standing at the side of a dual carriageway while cars thunder past.

Or more likely, he's an Irish priest, or at least, friends with one...

Now there's a bunch of people (as a class - not necessarily individuals) who could be prime targets for the Chancellor's Axe to save public money without losing necessary services.....

Or am I just jealous that they get to pose around in 4x4s and close motorway lanes for no good reason, causing totally avoidable traffic congestion just because some one has stopped on the hard shoulder with a puncture?

Nah - they're worthless!

If they weren't there to do it it would have to be the police stood cold on the motorway for hours instead of patrolling the housing estates and towns trying to stop your house/car getting broken into.

Look on the plus side,
if he was a marshal & there was an accident, i bet he would have had it cleared up in 5 minutes..

Oh, you sillies. Don't you know that Elvis faked his death and now works in a doughnut shop in Kalamazoo, Michigan? The National Enquirer says it, so it must be true.

If it was your teenage daughter stopped at 02.00 with a puncture you might change your tune.

Anyway THEY make darn good marshals

I was rescued by a two HATO officers in Ikea car park in Bristol, I think they'd only stopped for a break but found me with OH's car and a puncture on a wheel that I couldn't lift (even if I'd been able to undo the wheelnuts!!! They were fab and changed it for me even though they aren't supposed to
