I’m pretty sure AMR ran a Mk2 while waiting for the Escort homologation to be rubber stamped. Anyway, glad the car stirred up some memories! Sadly it didn’t race on Sunday, maybe because of the gearbox issues after first race.

We finished up with both SLRs doing well in GTSCC- the conditions were challenging, to say the least! The red car got P2 in 2L class, just as I predicted. It could have been closer to the winner at the end if it hadn’t been for a botched first driver change..... The B19 got P3 o/a in the Sports Car race, which was dry, so a successful end to the season. Do need to know why Mr Rowley got a ‘stop and go’ penalty however?

Parting shot- nice rainbow Sunday afternoon!

If you ever bothered to come and say hello I would of told you . Jumped in car after owner had his stint and seat belt came undone . Despite best efforts to get shoulder strap back in out on track I thought better pit . Like all these pit stops there are people around who want to help but quite often just get in the way . Belt back in and off I go again only for it to pop out again . Back in the pits and Delta mechanic Martin sorted the belts and away I go for second time . We were dead last by now anyway and I just wanted to get some laps in and have fun . Then I get a stop and go penalty . Very nearly parked the car after this but thought hey ho just take the penalty . By now I’m raging and get back out on track and drive flat out getting down into the 2 min 2 seconds a lap . Not bad for an old pinto engine sports 2000. Ended back in P11 which is where we stayed so happy with that . Richard won both FJ races and we got 100% finishing record with Duncan in all his cars this year so very happy . Wish I had taken a picture of Mike flapping his arms as he said his co driver suddenly appeared in the pits for driver change . I did chuckle , sorry Mike.

I was not impressed- not first time he’s decided to pit unannounced!

I’m very sure you’re not the first, Iain. I drove a stint somewhere not realising my helmet strap wasn’t secured, and more than one without specs, having forgotten to put them back on after the helmet....

I dont know what kind of co-drivers you have here! During any enduro I always ask the next driver to be 100% ready at least twenty minutes before his stint. Because nobody's perfect I suffered a terrible headache once because I forgot my car keys into the helmet! No brain, no pain! Hope this is weird enough to join your pack…

Exactly the same- reading instruments the problem.....

Gerard, when the co-driver (me in this case) is also doing pit board duty it’s a bit difficult to have helmet and gloves already on......

Instruments and dials in general make things much too complicated.

Best to simplify and just have large brightly coloured lights than come on when trouble arises and flash rapidly if an immediate stop required.

Much easier for co-drivers to understand I would have thought. Perhaps add a siren and some haptic feedback for the most critical warnings?

That would also solve the problem of forgotten glasses - for most people so long as lamp positioning was sensible and easily remembered for which function was which.

Stack do some analogue gauges that have three light colours, Red for danger/switch off, amber for caution/just warming up and green for all is well.

When starting the car they are amber and once the fluids are at working temperature or pressure they go green.

Here's an example: https://www.demon-tweeks.com/uk/stac...-gauge-249514/

I see the picture Mike. I remember you said you have to clean the dishes too so dont forget you have to change your gloves from one task to another…You can leave your hat on!

Thanks for the useful link Peter, I see on temp gauge can be connected to the electric fan too. Would be good for a full iron engine having to run cool. Being a more than average Sunday driver, I only watch the tacho, water temp and oil pressure. And the track limits, sometimes…

Well, it helps if you have the gauges turned so that when they are operating correctly the needle is vertical. If it goes to one side you know you've got a problem.

Which is another reason why 'proper' gauges with needles are far better than all of this digital crap. Needle position can be seen at a glance, digital may be more accurate, but you have to read those.

Peter's link gives electronic gauges but the reading is analog, an accurate "needell" if I may say so!
And you can have a change in color when something goes wrong. In historic you often see an orange turn signal light right in the middle of the dash board. Day or night use, I dont like that, we call them "too late mate" lights!

Those Stack gauges are expensive but very good. Cheaper than an engine rebuild, though! John’s B19 has a full set, and after the last overheating incident, his SLR has a temp gauge, bezel suitably polished to make it match the other dials..... :

SamBinfield should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
We had a difficult weekend, with engine issues on the Gilbern as previously mentioned, and driveshaft issues with the E-Type. Thankfully the Jag ran faultlessly in the GTSCC race having been substituted for the ailing Gilbern, and I was very grateful for the opportunity to race her for the first time.

Congratulations to Mike and Simon on their class podium.

Does anyone know of any photographers that were covering the event?
