Fastest laps - 'Who is who'?

From F1-live:

Quote:
Monaco: fastest laps in the race
1. Kimi Raikkonen - 1'14"545 - lap 49
2. Michael Schumacher - 1'14"707 - lap 30
3. Ralf Schumacher - 1'14"768 - lap 77
4. Juan Pablo Montoya - 1'14"902 - lap 47
5. Rubens Barrichello - 1'15"307 - lap 59
6. Fernando Alonso - 1'15"397 - lap 58
7. David Coulthard - 1'15"439 - lap 51
8. Jarno Trulli - 1'15"679 - lap 51
9. Cristiano Da Matta - 1'16"282 - lap 51
10. Jacques Villeneuve - 1'16"292 - lap 50
11. Giancarlo Fisichella - 1'16"647 - lap 72
12. Nick Heidfeld - 1'16"835 - lap 75
13. Ralph Firman - 1'17"208 - lap 51
14. Olivier Panis - 1'17"777 - lap 70
15. Mark Webber - 1'18"004 - lap 13
16. Jos Verstappen - 1'19"146 - lap 25
17. Justin Wilson - 1'19"169 - lap 19
18. Antonio Pizzonia - 1'19"437 - lap 8
19. Heinz-Harald Frentzen - no recorded time (accident, lap 1)
Except for Toyota's drivers, all the others were on same strategy.
Most of it is shown thruogh this statistic. But, Coulthard and Pizzonia????
Coulthard - almost a full second slower than Kimi?
Pizzonia - 1.4 on Webber?
I can understand this kind of things in quals, after all, it's only one try, and smallest slide can get you far behind. But race? In Monaco you have 78 attempts, and you get allmost or over a second behind your teammate?

Maybe this can say who is who in their teams, and Pizzonia really should worry about his future, while DC just mught consider retirement. I mean, I wouldn't keep a driver who is that slower in 'typical driver's' track, would you?

The first fastest lap in the race was set by Ralf. It was in the 19's. Laptimes gradually lowered to 15's, but since Pizzonia retired quite early, it isn't as bad as it looks.

5 laps is a considerable distance in the early stage of the race in terms of tyres heating up and getting into the groove. Plus Pizzonia was stuck behind -I believe- Villeneuve.

Pizzonia stuck behind Villneuve, now thats funny. JV was consistently faster than some of those that have faster laps. For example, he gained about .5 seconds per lap on DaMatta during the race but still DaMatta has a faster lap. Its only one lap. The race was 78. The guy who won only set the 4th fastest but was able to keep his average speed up instead of one very fast(DaMatta)lap and then 77 slow ones. The bottleneck was DaMatta. After he pitted everyone behind his began lapping faster. In fact JV began lapping almost 2 seconds per lap faster just before he pitted.

Another example, Panis was lapped 4 times. In fact Firman who came in 2nd to last lapped him long before the race ended. However, his time was just 5/10ths faster.

Fastest lap is just about the most useless bits of information produced in a race.

the Kimi lap was great 0.25 faster than MS, what were the first qualifying times in comparison and the previous lap record.

He meant the same strategy as each other - the point here is comparing lap times within each team.

Interesting that Ralf was so fast at the end of the race - what went wrong for the other 76?

This stat is slightly damning for DC, he was stuck behidn Trulli the whole race though, and his lap time is just ahead of Jarno's.

It's true, DC stopped on the same lap as JT both times. How gutted must he have been?
