It's Offical Ambrose will race Cup (merged twice)

MN today says that Marcos Ambroses deal is to expand next year to include a number of NEXTEL Cup races. MN is usually accurate, but havent heard that anywhere else - fantastic if it proves to be correct. Go Ambrose. Look out Ricky Bobby

Perhaps it is posted in the wrong spot. Not gunna argue that.

But I'm interested in what Abrose is doing. Not interested enough to look at Nacar stuff in the hope that someone posts an update.

But just as interested as the 48 other people that have read this thread before me.

I'd set my watch and warrant on anything MNews prints, so i'd say its a fair bet. The questions are what races? Instantly you'd have to asume the two road courses, but anything else? Daytona? Indy or maybe Lowes (Isn't that where he go one of his 3rds?).

I get Nextel Cup on my Digital package at no extra cost! Can't wait to see him race in the Nextel Cup, I'm really hoping he gets a good team behind him! I think he can do really well!

Good news if it's true, even qualifying on the ovals will be a good effort with how many cars will be entering races next year.

I laughed when it was billed as 'one of the biggest announcements in Australian Sport this year' - yeah, right up there with regaining the Ashes and Thorpie and Warnie retiring!

Not the best day to make the announcement, but it is good news.

Ambrose has also won a contract extension to the end of 2010 and has now shifted his goals.
Quote:
"I've got my eye on the prize of hoping to make a full-time tilt at the Nextel Cup next year," Ambrose said.

"I never thought in my wildest dreams I'd be able to run Nextel Cup in 2007."

While he will run the second level Busch car next year he has two Nextel Cup premier level rounds confirmed and may be able to compete in as many as 10 meetings.

That's not a COT. Nor is it anything that resembles a current Nascar brand...??!?? He will race a Ford Fusion.

He will race the 2 Nextel cup Road Courses, and the Busch series has 3 road courses. So he will do 5 all up.

The Winston/Nextel Cup has been going to both Watkins Glen & Sears Point (used to go to Riverside to) for years.

Next year the Busch cars are running at Watkins Glen, Mexico City and Montreal.

haha yes, chances are it won't even make the papers...

From Jayski:

Ambrose to Make Announcement on 2007 Plans UPDATE: A press conference is scheduled to Wednesday evening where Marcos Ambrose will announce further plans for 2007. From the release, "Australian driver Marcos Ambrose will make one of the biggest announcements in Australian Sport this year by confirming an extended schedule in America during 2007."(Ambrose PR)(12-20-2006)
UPDATE: Australian businessman Craig Gore has finalized a deal with Wood Brothers-JTG Racing which will see Team Australia/Aussie Vineyards branding on the back quarter panel of Ambrose’s #59 Kingsford Charcoal Ford for all 35 rounds of next year’s Busch Series. Part of the agreement will also see a full Team Australia/Aussie Vineyards entry in a minimum of two, and up to 10, NASCAR Nextel Cup events. Ambrose will campaign the full Team Australia/Aussie Vineyards entry in Nextel Cup road course events at Infineon Raceway at Sonoma, California on June 24 and at Watkins Glen International Raceway in New York State on August 12.(BAM Media PR)(12-21-2006)

so road courses, and possibly up to 10 races, this'll be good

edit: another article. http://www.motorsport.com/news/artic...&FS=NASCAR-CUP

I lol'ed at 'we can combine similar products like wine and barbeque charcoal'

Only the Top 35 in owners points get an automatic race entry, the rest have to qualify for the other 8 positions.

Excellent News.
Expect some results from MA if WoodsBros/JTG can supply him with a good crew.
Hopefully the Bush crew will crew for he Nextel races.

As for the car.
Its a late 80's Thunderbird body with Superspeedway ducting.(Set up for Calder I assume)
I can not tell its origin from the picture but with a yellow cage it may be ex whiteline car.
Having said that it could be from any team in Australia as you can rebody NASCARS.

Let's not get too carried away. The deal is for two races only, the other eight are contingent on finding other Aussie money and we all know how hard that is.
The facts are that anything short of an unlikely win is not going to cause even the slightest blip on the media radar here in Australia.
NASCAR is seen on a pay TV station that struggles to get even 0.3% of the total TV audience. It's usually seen at ungodly hours of the morning and unless there's a huge and preferably firey accident the only free to air TV exposure you're going to get is In Pit Lane. And that's Melbourne only on Community TV to about 43'000 viewers, hardly enough to send Aussie business racing to the cheque books.
I wish Marcus the best of luck but todays announcement was more about self promotion for Craig Gore than any serious Nextel Cup challenge.
Let's see how he does in Busch first, and then when a genuine contender signs him to a long term contract then we'll have something to be excited about.
