CSCC are coming to Knockhill for a double header (racing clockwise and anti- clockwise on the different days) on July 3/4. Maybe some of your members should join the club and join in the appropriate grids to show us the way round.

Derwent is heading for a stewards' enquiry!
Surely easier for CSCC to just make SMRC an invited club? They will no doubt need some extras entries but should not force folk to join CSCC

I wouldnt be surprised if CSCC had pretty decent grids on its own.

I suspect that, as long as CSCC can keep the price of entry reasonable, this event will be well supported.

I appreciate it's a long way for anyone south of the midlands to travel, but nevertheless, CSCC have never raced there before, and with the unique format, I think plenty will be prepared to make the trip to try a new circuit and get two races over the weekend.

Certainly, the double-header event at Anglesey in 2019 was very popular, and the format plus good value entry fee certainly tempted plenty of people to make the journey who perhaps otherwise wouldn't have done so for a single race meeting.

I, for one, am certainly hoping to do Knockhill, and all things being equal (i.e. I still have a working car and money!), then I'll be there.

Excellent idea, Andy, one that is in discussion between Scottish Classics drivers and CSCC. Hopefully it will result in some local drivers competing at this event.

Would be great to see a substantial turnout, perhaps with numbers assisted by those no longer travelling to Spa. There may not be the attraction of Belgian frites but the Knockhill cafeteria stovies will provide ample sustenance. I and many other enthusiasts are hoping that we will be allowed access to spectate!

Scottish Motor Racing Club advised yesterday: 'We are delighted to announce that the Edinburgh Watch Company will be the official sponsor for the 2021 Scottish Classics Sports and Saloons Championship.
This new partnership aims to enhance the experience for classics drivers on race weekends, with special trophies, a new driver of the day award.

Edinburgh Watch Company owner and ex SMRC saloon car racer, Jonathan Gilbert,
is passionate about supporting the development of Scottish motor racing and sees the Classics link as an excellent fit for the EWC brand.'

Entries open for the CSCC meeting on July 3/4 for CSCC members now, and in 7 days time for invited guests. 30 min qualy and 30 min race on each day; clockwise one day and anti-clockwise on the other. From the meeting regs:

10. Guest entries - members of the KMSC and SMRC may enter as a guest, provided their car is suitable for the races they wish to be part of, they will race within the relevant Scottish Guest category. We will accept entry forms and a photo of the car from paid-up KMSC and SMRC members, 7 days after entries open to CSCC members. There is no requirement to join the CSCC or register the car if entering this one round as a KMSC or SMRC member. The CSCC retain the right to move a guest entry between series or refuse an entry. Entries will be accepted from cars that closely match those of a relevant CSCC series, unless otherwise agreed by email. Cars will race in the same specification as they would usually race within their relevant Scottish category. No slicks or racing wet tyres. Guests will receive awards as follows: 1st in Class, 2nd in Class with 4 starters and 3rd in Class with 7 starters, there is only one class per race and no overall winner award. Award winners receive a single award per entry, with an optional 2nd driver award available to purchase after each event.

Andy, many thanks for the information.
I have forwarded to SMRC Classics Driver's Rep. to distribute.

Are you / any other members of this forum planning to visit Knockhill?

I have provisionally entered, and have booked testing for the Friday, too. However, It all depends on work - I have a project that is due to be submitted on 1 July; after that I may be incapable of doing anything! I would not be surprised if the client gave us an extension of a week or two, too, and that will be problematic for coming up.

I put our entry in yesterday - I've had accommodation booked for ages as we were originally due at Knockhill 1/2 May, so I just rolled over the bookings

Thinking a Friday test session might be a good idea as I've never driven the circuit, although our Clan-meister Pete Richards did give me a few laps demonstration round there when the Imp Club had a tracknight there! And I also navigated a Stiletto round it as a regularity test on Le Jog, many years ago.

I've entered too.

I, also, have never driven the track there. In fact, the closest I've ever got is seeing it from the road many years ago when I was supporting some entrants on an event called the 'FIVA World Rally', which I seem to remember paid a visit to the track, although I only saw it from the road. That was 1996 I believe. Bloody hell! That's 25 years ago!

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the challenge. Let's hope it's a good turnout.

Steve's just told me he's got the Sprinter back on the road - we can have a Convoy - though I might be going up a few days earlier to see some friends in Edinburgh

Sadly I have had to withdraw from the CSCC Knockhill meeting - working in Devon at the moment and that just about makes it impossible. Annoying but without work I don’t get to play with cars at all!

Sorry about that - I can just about remember when that four-letter word "work" got in my way of living

Could probably work a way of getting your car up there and back if you fancied a fly-drive

Thats kind, Richard, but i have a feeling that achieving the project submission may end up being very difficult and involve long hours so i am not sure that i will have time to get everything together. I may be working away 7 days a week by then. We may also get a short extension which will involve working that weekend, too.

One of my Alfa friends from Dundee has been delighting in regaling me with tales of the difficulties of the anti-clockwise circuit....good job we're slow anyway

No matter - off to Donington this weekend - over 500 cars entered in CSCC on Saturday/Sunday....and apparently nearly 200 with CTCRC on Monday....

Andy, sorry to hear that you are unable to attend. Hopefully the event will be well supported and CSCC will return next year.

Looing forward to meeting 10/10 competitors and spectators.

A super summer spectacle at Knockhill on 6th June, enjoyed by drivers and the crowd of up to 1,000, limited by current restrictions.

Great to see new competitors to SMRC Classics, Paul Bowers - Fiat 128 Coupe,
Nicola Campbell – Fiesta XR2, Niki Dickson – Lotus Cortina, Adam Kinmond - Rover Vitesse,
Oly Mortimer - Ford Fiesta and Philip Russell - BMW E36.

Previous champion, Tommy Gilmartin, won the first race, with John Kinmond in second place, followed by Shonny Paterson, Alasdair Coates and Bruce Mitchell fifth. Sixth placed Alastair Baptie
set a new class ‘A’ record, with the first sub 60 second lap time. Close competition throughout, especially between ninth placed Mortimer in the ex. Steve Uphill Datapost Fiesta evocation and Craig Houston in a Lotus Excel.

John Kinmond won race two, comfortably ahead of Paterson throughout. Bruce Mitchell came third, 0.3 seconds in front of Coates, with Baptie fifth. The next three drivers finished within half a second, in order: Mortimer, Russell, Houston. Six drivers failed to start the race due to mechanical problems.
