john hopkins - i hope he goes really well, he is young and is an ama formula xtreme and 750cc superstock champ.... will take a season or 2 to learn the tracks, maybe the next big thing from the US

Eh Katoh!

He is getting awfully fast on that NSR, and Capirossi is hungry.....very hungry
And when McCoy heals up he will be dangerous too.
I too hope that Checa will get some time in the sun, he likes the 4stroke.

Although I'll always have soft spot for Australian riders, I'm going for Barros again. He's performed bloody well since joining the Pons squad but for one reason or another has only managed a couple of victories.

Hopefully this year he can deliver more often but it will depend on the competition between the 500s and 990s.

As for who will challenge Rossi, I think Checa can as he loves the new bikes, but only if the Yamaha is up to it.

Rossi seems unstoppable. Suzuki seems to have picked up their pace.

5th, 8th and 9th in the test at Suzuka. Seems they have found some speed.

1)Katoh - his times at Suzuka have been equal to Rossi's, plus he's 4-time 250cc winner there.
2)Rossi - i can't imagine his tires lasting the entire race with that kind of horsepower, but i'll give him second anyway
3)Capirossi - enough said

Well this year will be a Rossi walk over. The movers behind the change in the formula were the factories so there is no way a 990cc four stroke is going to be slower than a 500cc two stroke.

In fact, over a full GP distance, done in testing Rossi saved 46 seconds!

As for guys like Barros, your kidding right, he is nearly as old as I am and makes Biaggi look like Mr Consistency.

Capirex draws first blood with provisional pole. all the more amazing because the RC211V is hitting 195mph at the end of the straight to Capirossi's 189mph. chalk it up to the NSR's supreme thrust out of corners

My heart says Katoh, but head says Rossi.

It appears that the M1 is a developmental DUD so max and checa can have a rest.

Barros, give it a rest
Lois, definate podium chnace
gazz, will battle with nakano
Jacques, dont be silly
KR3 (McWill etc.), see Jacques
VanDerGor, will beat Gazza
Harada, see Jacques, will probably put into pits mid-race
Kenny, will be happy just to ****-on the M1 (which he will) the least developed bike beating the most developed bike, massive boost for the team, could even reignite hopes of the title!

sete, dont be silly, will finish behind the yamaha's
abe, (fan favorite) possible 5th
riba, (who?) "plane ticket home thx"
regis, everyone in a 20km radious will start crying if he drops teh 'cube' omg that thing is beautiful

wildcards, alwasy good for a stack, pity that the honour of destorying a 4 stoke in a race will go to an unknown like Ryo.

did i miss anyone?
ukawa, if he doesn't finish 2nd he is a dope

I really dont want to see that ugly looking RC211 do a one two on sunday! That would be pretty disappointing after such a long wait

I think that the 4 strokes will have the pace but I think that reliability issues that they will face in their first year, and the reliablity of the 2 strokes will make it a close run thing between the 4 strokes and the 2 strokes, at least for this year then it'll be a 4 stroke whitewash from 2003 onwards.

I've watched Rossi in first qualifying,he don't look too comfortable on that bike!I know it's new and he has to get used to it(which he will do because he's a master at what he does)but if he just can't feel the limit on that bike and he does take a spill, who knows, it might not be all one way for him.

Apparently he fell off during first warm up and was very lucky for it not to have been more serious than it was considering high speed and a wall was involved(I think he missed it!!but lost all the finger tips of his leather gloves)

Ok Rossi is making me eat my words,on pole for first race!!but I think there's a chance he could go down,if he doesn't then he'll win, unless Loris can do something,he's flying too.
