Bit of a shame that Mercedes is not joining the circus.

Interesting that SBR was going to be the team.

So Ford stayed loyal to SBR and cast off T8, then SBR try to ditch Ford for Merc.

Fair point - maybe the benefits of Ford loyalty don't stack up all that well for the team?

Good decision for mine.

The Erebus and SBR link up was interesting.

Would be good to see Mercedes get more involved in the GT championship and Bathurst 12 Hour rather than running a silouette COTF that has no connection to the cars they sell.

Lets no even go there.

I think what's actually becoming boring is all the media outlets reporting on who's NOT getting involved next year.

Anti motorsport? Would be an odd place (ten tenths) for someone who is anti motorsport - no?

It would have greater impact on motorsport if Mercedes got involved in another category of motorsport rather than V8SA. I used the example of GT and Bathurst 12 Hour - currently contested independently by Erebus Racing. However any class would have great impact on motorsport - such as F3, Production cars, Rally etc

Just on a side note - I find it funny that V8SA in the early years belittled and carried on like children about the idea of car makers such as Hyundai, KIA, Volvo, Nissan being involved and now they are saying how exciting it is for new manufacturers to be involved

Story Here Too

It seems that SBR was heavily linked to the potential involvement of Mercedes Benz in V8Supercar.

Of interest in the same edition, on the same page even, is an article suggesting that Ford will remove a level of financial support from both DJR & SBR next season. A blow that will likely hurt both squads enormously. Not that Ford particularly cares I suspect...

I can recall writing here several months ago that SBR was the team probably most technically capable out of the non-manufacturer aligned teams to design & develop a V8Supercar package for another brand of car.

AA is absolutely convinced that 'something' is going on with a change in manufacturers out Yatala way, with this week's edition suggesting that SBR is likely to come out shortly and announce that they are moving from Ford to a hitherto undiscussed brand.

The real issue is the time it would take to get an engine up and running.. the body seems relatively easier.. a fully self sufficient engine facility could run parallel programs as long as it liked... all a question of cubic dollars.

Here's hoping there is a better commercial deal out there for SBR.. a different car maker.. and corporate support for their operations...

protip : The casual fans don't care that the car on the track has nothing in common with the road car. As long as it kinda looks like it and has the badge on it is all they care about.

Also, the casual fan doesn't watch all the grassroots stuff, only the full pro stuff with the TV coverage. So marketing something in a series no casual fans would watch is idiotic.
