not wanting to belittle tony's contribution, but it was the group that originally bought the land, got consents, etc that should be classified as the heroes.

Tony had the decency of fast tracking the completion date by his cash input, so unsure if hero is appropriate .

Maybe the real hero's are the local District Council who sold the land to the Begg, Dippie, Aitken, Boult, O'Donnell consortium on the basis that the land was ustilised as a motorsport park

That's a pretty out-there condition of sale!

There are a number of people who deserve congratulations for making this awesome new facility a reality...from the original group who brainstormed the idea, the local body council members, the construction crews who worked extra hours and Mr Quinn for bankrolling the final installments. I listened to the interview with TQ on Radiosport and was interested to hear him talk about his interest in Hampton Downs but his plan was to wait until the bank stepped in and he could buy it at a potentially lower price !! An astute businessman for sure. I am really looking forward to seeing the AusGT cars round there. Finally some top class variety that does'nt have to have a Ford or Holden badge.

HD has been running profitably for 2 years now and had they not had to waste millions of dollars and two years fighting two government departments (Corrections & Transit NZ), the track extension would have been finished by now.

Thankfully Cromwell didn't have to put up with that nonsense. The concept is great but it isn't a 340 day a year track facility with a local catchment of over 1 million people either, needing marshals for 50 weekends a year. Running just a few decent events a year will be just brilliant.
