Track Experience Days - Recommendations

Mrs L, had a cracking day yesterday @ Mallory, driving a selection of Porsches.
Having perused the Everyman Brochure (I'm quite taken with the 'F1' event in the Old Tyrrell cars!) we were wondering what else is out there to top this, without taking a trip to the 'Ring' or similar?

Recommendations anyone?

Probably the best track experience apart from F1 cars is the day at Palmerland - Bedford - no idea what its called but four about £ 600 you really get to thrash six or eight different cars - single seat & two seat racers caterham clio rally 4x4 etc etc etc

It's called Palmersport and comes highly recommended by everyone who has been before. The link can be found on MSV's website www.motorsportvision.co.uk

Hubby and I were at Hethel for the 'scare yourself sensible' in an Lotus. In my mind a waste of money - 20 minutes (8 or 9 laps) in a road Elise on their test track for £99. Only bit of the half day I did enjoy was the factory tour.

thats my problem with the track days where you drive their cars - not enough laps / time

as has been said the palmersport ones are very good though, as jos has said lots of different cars across a whole day, although is it a bit on the expensive said

my preference is novice track days where you drive your own car, best balance of track time and price i reckon

experiences on track

The ring is fantastic and RMA do an excellent trip out there. If you use RMA try and get some runs with Ron Simmons of 75 experience. You could of course have a run with Sabine as Graham has both on hand, but Ron's the better instructor.
Alternatively you could do a public day with us. We also do the usual circuits in our car or yours, days or half days. We DONT do experiences, though you can go round in a GT3. We DO do teaching and no-one ever feels short-changed.
Regards
Mike

Trackdays can be fantastic, but I do agree that it is best done if you own the vehicle you use. I live in France and we go to several circuits, the weather is predictable and we get the use of the track all day. Circuits tend to be more accessible in France, although some may say that the open roads are treated as circuits by many French drivers.

Also recomend

Caterham experience bookable on Easytrack website or direct

U-Drive cars based near Oxford, selection of cars any circuit (and nice people)

Driveme. experience company, Based Northwest but go anywhere.

Would only recommend these Guy;s as they all are meticulous about car maintainence and proffesional on-site.

Probably lots of others that are very good too.

Yes, £600 a little high, but this is a total package which includes Breakfast, Lunch, and afternoon tete e tete and anecdotes, and the services of a delightful young hostess for the group all day!!

Has anyone done MSV's racemaster at Oulton or Brands?

Unwanted gift from someone I know, worth doing?

I have, 30th July this year at Oulton Park. Have you got the gold, silver or bronze voucher?

There's a chief instructor who's like your mentor for the day, he takes you through 'active' driving and what to expect.

You got for one lap with the instructor in the clios, then you swap over and you drive for 15-20 mins depending on how fast/good you are. The faster you are, the more laps you can squeeze in obviously. The instructor scribbles notes on a clipboard and grades your performance in a manner not unlike your driving test.

Then you got out in the formula brands single seaters which are actually formula parmer audi cars, they've also got a restricted top speed of 70-75 mph meaning you can got faster in the clios, but you don't notice the restriction much. Again 15-20 minute session and if you're fast and confident and can overtake people (if they'll get out of the way) you'll have a great time.

It's setup so you can concentrate on enjoying the experience the most as there are cones indicating braking point, turning in point and other blue cones on the track to guide you and keep you roughly on the racing line.

Lastly, you don't need to change gear much and it's run on the oulton park fosters layout as the national and international section is used at the same time for the young driver lessons.

Well these are the prices of the vouchers

Gold Voucher - £180 Silver Voucher - £165
Bronze Voucher - £145

I think the Bronze and Silver prices change slightly but the Gold one doesn't. The Gold voucher comes with insurance policies and cancellation cover and has a longer validity period (a whole year). So I'd expect he wants a similar amount of money for that voucher.

Oh and you'll hordly notice the restricted speed limit. Apart from the engine hitting the enforced rev limiter, the laps go by so quickly and you're too busy to look at/for a speedo! It's like your, as near as makes no difference, in an F1 car.

Interested where we got 75 mph from at Oulton? We have similiar cars at Brands Hatch and I am sure we can hit Paddock at close on a 100mph! (In comparison the Audi TTs could manage 107 into Paddock, and the V6 MG ZS about 110 mph. Not sure on the Megane 225s. HOWEVER, back to the Van Diemen Audi's; in good hands they can lap at 60 secs on the Indy Circuit, (limited). Instructors can make about high 58 seconds which shows that they are pretty fast; hence reaching 100mph. Limiter is set at 4,000 revs!
