Prost! should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Lee, your idea is fantastic! I'm planning on making a trip to your area to see Champcars (and 'The Jake' - for the Stadium Mustard of course ) under the lights, as I look forward to seeing quite a spectacle. If it works for ovals, why not road / street courses?

The Vegas idea is just overwhelming to imagine and definitely would create a sensory overload for the spectators. I'm sure, if done right, this would rival or exceed Monaco in the glitz department - at least from the lighting alone!

As with Long Beach circa '75, racing down the strip at night in Vegas can become a whole new tradition. I know Long Beach brings in over 100,000 for a weekend. Great selling point for the casinos, eh? Seems to me if Pook liked the idea, the father of the LBGP is one of few that could actually see it to fruition.

Lee, I think Chris Pook needs to find your talent! Damn impressive idea. Oh, and if you can sell this one to Champcar, turn your attention afterwards out west and get a SF Treasure Island Grand Prix up and running in my backyard!

Hmm... I guess I'll send this off with the V6 proposal.

One more photo... The other side of the Vegas Hilton, the cars would run in from the lower left, under that lit canopy.

The cooler temperatures at night also save drivers a redux of the Nelson Piquet dehydrated break dance on the victory rostrum!

Dude! That's awesome! I'm not sure about the pit lane for the first one, it cuts the corner a bit too much, maybe. But you know the area better than I do so I'll stop talking.

Well, after I propose one completely ridiculous and impossible idea. Point-to-point rally style 500 mile race along some winding highway. Of course, you'd need like 8 pit crews per team, Put crash barriers up along the entire 500 miles, get fans to pay to watch the cars go by once and never again.... Yeah forget it.

Nice call on Vegas. That would be the ultimate venue scenerio.

I don't know enough about Loudon, but doesn't it have a long way to go before it gets up to the toll Darlington has taken?

I've been thinking about the street races a lot lately. Despite all of our objections, maybe it would be in CART's interests to only add street course venues (or other types right in cities). Beggers can't be choosers. Everyone's happy that we've got a field and a season ahead. Now we've got to look to make the series powerfull again and have positive cash flow. First off, we need sponsors on those cars. City venues mean sponsors and crowds. The TV ratings for St. Petes were horible. As long as the street layouts are not like Vancouver or something, we should be embracing them short to mid term. The alternative is CART selling out to Bernie or some such cr@p

Also, CBS will never forgo Golf and NFL for CART. CART needs either NBC, UPN, WB. Atleast to fill in for CBS...

I totally agree with your motives, Snrub... But the fact is the TV ratings for St. Pete _were_ horrible... CART's been neglectful of the TV audience for a _long_ time, that's where good ovals and road courses really pay off.

They _really_ need a marquee event, something totally different from Indy and Daytona, but just as loud and glossy, to draw attention to the whole series. Hence the Vegas idea.

CBS has a weak schedule, that's why CART's using them. Look at prime time Saturday Night for CBS this time of year... Seinfeld reruns. Pitiful.

Lee... Thanks for doing that, and sharing that!

The second track looks incredibly fast, and the esses are there for the taking! Any idea about lap distance?

Hmm... About... 4.2 miles... Typically too long, _but_, it's got the two very fast straights which would cut down lap times to something more manageable, has the over-under aspect to keep the cars in front of the crowd for a long time.

Besides, there's no point in thinking small... That's for the lawyers to do.

It's equal parts love and severe addiction, DNQ.

I really don't see any flaws in your venue. Perfect for TV and for the audience. The spectical will be enough to keep the crowd happy, even if there aren't as many cars going by as they might have liked. If it was to really happen, the real question is, is it feasible from the perspective of the city functioning and businesses operating. Maybe you should do the legwork for this event and Pook can hire you on.

Well, I tried thinking like an organizer, or a business owner, and did some revisions. It made my head hurt, but this design shortens the lap slightly, and puts the pits and paddock in a better location, the parking lot of the New Frontier.

I think a race in LV would have to more compact than your second idea. It also looks very fast with few passing spots. As for a rally outside Vegas, don't they already have the rally in Laughlin? That is just 1 hour away from Vegas.

Ummm, I was talking about Champ Cars in a "rally style" race. Point to point. Like I said though, it's not feasible. It wasn't a serious suggestion...
