The Great Race 21

I recieved a call the other day to say that The Great Race 21 (last years Bathurst Annual) is now in store, albeit at rather enourmous $75 (when will it ever stop?!).

Has anyone already received their copy (which was supposed to be ready before Christmas last year...) and what do you think of it?

Crash (AKA Little Mark),

Got a call from Drysdales the other day and raced down to pickup my copy. $66.00 was the price as per the last few years. The quality is very good, although to me it hasn't been the same since Bill Tuckey stopped being involved in the book. Tuckey had a unique blow-by-blow style that really made you want to read the annuals over and over again.

Thesedays, there is just not enough detail. Plenty of pictures of females throughout the book where there probably should be more of race cars, but anyway......

CD.

Yeah $66- Mark Jones must have been ripped off

It's still a must buy, but it aint the same these days, is it? I'm currently reading the 1988 book again, and in those days, Tuckey used to use a dozen adjectives to describe any one driver

LOL Crash Test, hardly seems worth it, does it?

I've only got the Great Race 16, and 18 - and they are both excellent, excellent books. I'd buy all of them If I could, but, when you're at school, and too lazy to get a job, $75 is a lot to pay for a book...

Actually, I got a bargain on my great race books - $5 eachs at an Angus and Robertson clearence center, along with the 1992 Australian Motor Racing season review for the same price. Gee, I was happy that day!

I think I started my collection out like that back in the 80s when the 85-87 books were going out at some stupid price.... a shame I was too young to actually read the words in them though at the time

I must admit that I've gotten fairly desperate these days, and I look everywhere for a good motorsport book. I found the great race 8 for $35NZ (what's that in ozzie? $0.05?) in all places, Christchurch. They also had a heap of Bathurst programs from the 80s that i picked up at $10NZ... I suppose over there, there aren't as many nutter collectors as there are here; bits and bobs like that get snapped up here for absolutely rediculous sums of money.

Maybe this would help the people who dont have the set but The Great Race every so often comes out with an aniverary edition which includes all races up to that year. They have produced 3 of these since they started. Helps if you cant get them all. They agreat reading I consider myself rather lucky to have them all.

For those people in Melbourne a couple of good bookshops around that may help you, in Camberwell, Swanston books in the city may help.

Yeah those compilation one's are pretty good, the last one i think is 1960-1999.

My earliest one is 1984 (don't ask me how i have it, i was only 1 at the time), then 1985 - 1987, 1990, 94, 97-98, plus the V8 Bathurst no.1

They are still great books, but i agree the quality has dropped a bit over time.
