kingfloopy should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
NEXTEL Cup: Checker Auto Parts 500k (spoilers)

1 +1 Jimmie Johnson 6157 Leader 34 1 5 12 22 $8,576,950
2 -1 Matt Kenseth 6140 -17 34 0 4 15 20 $6,351,990
3 +1 Dale Earnhardt Jr. 6079 -78 34 0 1 10 16 $5,237,850
4 -1 Denny Hamlin* 6077 -80 34 3 2 6 18 $4,065,920
5 +1 Kevin Harvick 6052 -105 34 1 4 13 18 $5,798,230
6 +1 Jeff Gordon 6000 -157 34 1 2 13 17 $5,698,030
7 -2 Jeff Burton 5973 -184 34 4 1 7 19 $4,804,140
8 +2 Kyle Busch 5924 -233 34 1 1 10 18 $4,662,870
9 -1 Mark Martin 5904 -253 34 0 0 7 14 $4,095,100
10 -1 Kasey Kahne 5867 -290 34 5 6 11 17 $5,895,290
11 -- Tony Stewart 4488 -1669 34 0 5 15 19 $7,044,380
12 -- Carl Edwards 4131 -2026 34 0 0 9 18 $4,359,030

Stewart has locked up 11th place and the bonus that comes with it.

Jeff Gordon is on the pole with Kenseth 10th. A lot of guys out of the top 10 qualified towards the front. Johnson is 29th and will have to drive to the front and avoid any carnage to get to the front.

I am so rooting for Earnhardt Jr. He is in a good position to claw a point or two back. But of course it could all reverse tomorrow, as ever!

Can't wait for it, love Phoenix.

Too bad for Stewart. He probably still wouldn't win the championship, but 4th is a lot better than 11th. But then again he probably wouldn't have taken as many risks as he has being out of the chase, but still. There's rumours that NASCAR is going to change the cutoff to 500 points next year and maybe have 12 drivers in the chase. The current 400 point cutoff has never come into play and it usually seems like driver from 8th to 12th before the chase are fairly close together so it might be a little more fair.

Perhaps it's just me, but isn't the race a bit... boring?

The race was a little slow with all the cautions, especially towards the end. Good job to Harvick for winning the race.

The point standings are:
Rank Driver Behind
1. -- Jimmie Johnson Leader
2. -- Matt Kenseth -63
3. +2 Kevin Harvick -90
4. -- Denny Hamlin -90
5. -2 Dale Earnhardt Jr. -115
6. -- Jeff Gordon -167
7. -- Jeff Burton -225
8. +1 Mark Martin -273
9. +1 Kasey Kahne -319
10. -2 Kyle Busch -359

The top 5 are technically in it, but Johnson is the driver looking the best and 3rd through 5th have a large gap to make up. Johnson only has to finish 12th or better I believe to win the title. But an engine failure or a wreck would be enough to change this points chase a great deal in the last race.

Looking very good for Jimmie isn't it? I'd be surprised if he lost it now.

Earnhardt is well out of it now, damn you Brian Vickers!

Got to catch a little of it in the morning on NBC on that TVU thing (man American ads suck, especially those Ford Bold Moves one, whoever thought of that should be shot.) but had to go to work with about 20 or so to go, just after Jeff Green crashed..

Going OT a bit I much prefer the American ads - they are way better than the ones we have here in Sweden. Not only are they, overall, a lot funnier, but also very racing-oriented. Can't go wrong with that

Ah yes, just about every one of them had a NASCAR personality in it, and were companies that sponsered cars or the series in some way. Is there so much Nascar related advertising on general TV, say 8pm on a weeknight?

Yeah. The race lacked pizzaz, but it had its good moments. Jimmie and Kevin were in their own race there. Pitty Carl Couldn't do anything...
