Who Will Replace Dario?

Now that it looks like Dario is for sure leaving for Chip Ganassi's NASCAR team, I was wondering who will replace Dario. Andretti Green Racing is one of the top teams in the IRL and it wouldn't make much sense to me to just cut that team.

All depends on sponsorship. That whole canadian club deal came together more at the last minute and dario wasn't even supposed to run the whole season originally.

Are Kanaan, Patrick and Marco all settled for next year?

Alex Lloyd would be ideal, but it might have to be someone with funding.

Paul Cherry on Sky Sports transmission has said tonight that Tomas Scheckter has signed an option with AGR for '08.

I wouldn't say it's for sure he's leaving, but the word is that Scheckter will end up in that seat as they want someone experienced and Scheckter isn't under contract.

It isn't official yet, but the announcement will probably come very soon.

We could see Marino Franchitti! He is a great racing driver, like Dario, he has never had the opportunity to challenge for championships due to driving mediocre cars.

Marino Franchitti hasn't driven an open wheel car since Formula Vauxhall almost 10 years ago. He seems somewhat content to be a career sportscar driver.

Marino did Formula Fords in 2000, remember Dario came to the US after driving for Mercedes in DTM and he was almost straight on the pace in his 1st season.

let me throw Jaime Camara into the hat

but the smart money is on Scheckter

Vision have told him there have no plans for his car next season and he's free to talk to other teams

I imagine it will be Scheckter, and while it will be interesting to see how he gets on in a top team now that he is experienced, surely Lloyd deserves a chance. Look at how Mutoh performed on his debut, and Lloyd outclassed the entire field for most of the IPS season. He really does deserve a shot

True, but Dario Franchitti moved to the US after only two seasons away from single seater competition, plus he attained a higher level in single seaters, than his brother.

Wouldn't it be interesting if Dan Wheldon came back -- also I would love to see AGR give a test to Scott Speed. {Although the chances of that are probably nill}

Let's not forget that Marino has proven to be a more than competent prototype driver and those things drive very much like open-wheelers (if not the exact same). However, I don't believe that Marino is in line for Dario's seat. I think AGR will dip into the IPS talent pool to replace Dario in the event he is leaving, as has been discussed.

Isn't Wade Cunningham driving for AGR in Indy Pro? Why not him moving up to IndyCars?

Wade did drive for AFS/AGR this year. He would fit right in with Dario's crash record if that is what they are looking for....might be difficult for him since has to pay his own crash insurance though

This may be 2 + 2 = 5 here, but Vitor Meria will replace Franchitti for the Petit Le Mans this weekend.

If he gels well with the team in this race... ?

I'm thinking Justin Wilson, although Meira would also make sense.
