Rolling Starts

Personally, I love the things and it should reduce the amount of red flag causing incidents before turn 1.

Standing start man myself. After all the effort which go into qualifying, it seems a poor way to start when the starter has to try & judge if everyone is in the right place.

No get them lined up on the grid 3,2,1 go.......

Standing starts win hands down.

You have to control your right foot and balance between throttle and clutch to get a perfect start.
Rolling starts are just foot down and go. Its too boring!

In 1988 the FIA forced a rolling start on the Bathurst 1000, and all the excitement and expectation of roaring thunder etc. became a damp squib. Rolling starts are dead boring and it's so easy to get an unfair advantage. A rolling start will take at least half the excitement out of the whole race. I prefer red flags to pace cars.

I knew for a few weeks that the btc were going to have rolling starts. The forum which was at (BTCC Forum)had a visit from the man himself Richard West, because we were having a big debate about rolling starts that Richard West has taken it into consideration. It would be great for rolling starts at circuits like Knockhill because the amount of Touring and Production cars. I would suggest a le mans like start where the driver has to run to the car and go!

Actually you are right, the rolling starts are going to be for the main feature race. So you are not dreaming!

well I suppose that will mean more cars finishing the feature race which is no bad thing.
I have to say that if you can't see the first corner you loose a lot of the action.

I agree with hunttheshunt. I couldn't believe the sheer noise when I went to Knockhill for the first time. If you listen carefully to the Tv, particularly the live Tv races, the noise is actually turned down!

Believe me, if a rolling start is done properly it can ensure suitable quantities of carnage.
Before last year in the UK Clios (standing start) I had 3 seasons in Super Coupe Cup (rolling) and the main difference is that in a rolling start everyone take sthe green light 3 inches apart and arrives at the first corner en masse 30 mph quicker.
I am a fan of standing starts (although I had a few duff ones last year) purely on safety reasons!!! Which seems to run against the majority of views here...

Perhaps having one standing start for the tourers and one rolling start is the best of both worlds, then. We'kll certainly see come Brands. (But i wont be here as im on holiday over Easter-noooooooooooooo!!!!!)

Sodemo, i already said that if you look up from your reply, the Feature race is going to have a rolling start considering that the production and tourers are racing together and the Sprint races are standing starts.

It is a good thing for the feature race because if you think how many production cars and tourers there are, it would be more safer!

Rolling Starts are Ok if the cars actually overtake, like in CART. If they had a rolling start in F1, it would be terribly boring. Anyway, for BTCC, give it a try, and we'll see how it goes.

There is a rolling start for he feature race for the simple reason that it allows more cars to start the race because of track licencing. Anyway it is good to have the different starts as it requires different skills.

Why not have a rolling 4 the sprint since this is less prestigious than the featured feature race.

If rollin starts rock then they can expand tem to both races next year.

And if they are pants then they will not have ruined the main event.

Anyway. I am not bothered as long as plato wins the championship.
