Just compare the following V12 powered road cars:
  • Aston Martin DB9: 450 hp from 6.0 -> 75 hp/liter
  • Lamborghini Murcielago: 580 hp from 6.2 -> 94 hp/liter
  • Maserati MC12: 630 hp from 6.0 -> 105 hp/liter
Still the DBR9 is a better race car than Murcielago R-GT.

MobileTradition1 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Any way you slice it, Spyker needs to step up or out. I really want variety in the series, but a car like Spyker screams 'look at me' and so when it doesn't produce, it's a big letdown. The Murci's doing a little better...

That was indeed a disappointment. But if I understood it correctly they were not running the newest engine spec. Because they knew that engine wouldn't last.

Now let's hope they can make this new engine spec a lot more reliable than the old one and make sure they can finish a 24h race.

Maybe the new two NC machines from Gibas Numeriek (one of the leading suppliers of CNC technology in the Benelux) can help them with a quicker development. (source)

Yes, as far as I know Spyker does all the engine development inhouse. And only the engine of the C8 Double12 R was done by Heini Mader.

So I guess Peter van Erp is doing the development of the Audi engine. It is sad to see that the engine has been the Achilles’ heel of Spyker's GT2 program since the beginning.

But they have to use the same engine as in their road cars.

I read somewere for their new road cars they consider to switch to an American engine (Ford).

@FIRE, but that engine will be used in their SSUV (the D8 Peking-to-Paris). And I don't think the American engine they are going to use will be a Ford engine. I will probably be a GM engine with a supercharger.

Yes, but whats about shipping the engine to Judd and let them work on it?

Edit: Just found this on the web

I really thought/hoped they would last the night...
They never should have gone into F1, but put that effort/money into this programme. Even Spyker GT2 B.V. was nearly bankrupt. Luckily they saw the light just at the right time to establish a seperate company to survive and still are struggeling...
Hoping on a brighter future

Just as I thougt and said before on this thread, they should not have been on the grid this year, performance was not good enough.
For trying hard they get nothing in return, let's hope they can learn from this.

Spyker tested a new version of the Audi V8 engine up to Le Mans, anothe firingrange and a lot of other changes. But It didnt seem to solve the BHP problem?

They did this race with the 'old' 2006/2007 C8 Spyder GT2R and not the new C8 Laviolette GT2R.

@Aslak Vind, it also didn't solve the reliability issues...

No, Lithuanian Team, they just purchased the 996 RSR from Alzen Motorsport. Alzen was busy on the Nordschleife last weekend.

It seems odd to me that Spyker ran one of their old C8 Spyders and not the new C8 Laviolette in the Lithuanian race. I wonder what the reasoning for that was?

Narrow and crowded non-permanent course + lots of amateur drivers = not the place where you want to endanger a new car, especially when you can win with your old and you mostly race their to please your sponsor.

Glad to see their win ..... great boost for the whole team . Hope this leads to a bit more reliability , and a bit of take the fight to Porsche and Fiat !!!

Absolutly love that Spyker ..... love to see them flake the hole off Porsche & Fiat ..... Max Mosley style ..... !!!
