Rallycross GP's

Does anyone know the results of the Rallycross GP's that used to be run at Brands Hatch in the '80's and '90's. I remember going most years even the foggy event that Will Gollop won in '89. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I've recent found courage from Grandstand around 87-88 when Mikael Nordstrom won in the his black RS200. That was the year Mark Rennison's door came open while going through the chicane. I also have a certain Jonathan Palmer driving John Welch's Escort Xtrac when it caught fire !! Those were the days.

Hey there

Cant remember the exact winners list but I know Rolf Nilsson won the first in 82

Andy Bentza won it one year and I am sure Olle Arnesson won it aswell.

Gollop won it most times, Doran won in 90 i think.
And John Welch won as well if i remember rightly, though cant remember the exact winners, Barrie is yer man as he think he has them all on tape!!

Ah, the fog...... It was one of the first years I was Chief Startline marshal. We set the cars off one at a time at intervals and it was done on the basis of whoever did the fastest time. The really odd thing was that after the meeting I left the circuit only to find everywhere else had no fog at all! It had settled in the valley at the circuit and with lack of wind didn't move all day. Memories....

I'm pretty sure our friend Jonathan reads these pages...and why shouldn't he, hopefully a Rallycross GP could come back to Brands as it sure pulled in the crowds. Bring in a few stars from Europe and bingo an instant success meeting!

Some of those names take me back..

I remember going to the 94 and 95 rounds of the euro rally-x gp at brands.

I remember jean luc pailler's wheel coming off his citroen xantia as he came through the chicane by the pits and also a mondeo kind of barrel rolling towards the stand (where my dad and I were seated) just before paddock. Sure it was a kind of yellowygreen colour ? I remember thinking "okay, I might die now..!" it just seemed to be flying towards us. Great memories !

You are thinking of the still racing Jos Sterkens, and if i remember right he nearly made it into the speccy enclosure aswell! Bloody scary!

The Sterkins Mondeo came within a foot of landing in the Desire Wilson stand I can tell you I was in there it looked like it was joining us, I nearly crapped myself. The GP back at Brands would be awesome but JP is very protective of his grass so I don't think it will happen. There are copies of various GPs on that well known auction site, I bought one last week and it brought back some great memories..........
