rev limiters
You know how you can flat shift on the rev limiter, well does anyone actually do this ?
is it good/bad ? I've also heard of a flat shift limiter which activates a rev limiter when you press the clutch so you can flat shift without the revs flying up. This device is in addition to a normal rev limiter if you have one. Anyone used/heard of such a device? |

I'm not sure we can flat shift on our standard VW syncromesh boxes.

The flat shift device has a micro switch on the gearshift, which knocks out the ignition to the engine for a split second and allows the shift into the next higher gear without making the shift jerky, or indeed hurting the mechanical components of the engine.
I doubt it would be legal for FVee given the inputs required on the electrics side to make it work |

I have an Armtech (now Omex) Speedshift, which has a switch that you attach to the clutch pedal. When the revs are over a certain limit (which you can set) and the clutch is pushed down, a secondary rev limiter is activated, that allows you to keep your foot on the throttle while changing gear. Full-throttle gear shifts. Also can be used as a starting control device, with a secondary button.

I'm pretty sure that all BTCC cars have used this cut-out since the introduction of sequential shift boxes. They never lift, or brake come to think of it! The brakes tend to be the bloke in front.

Chris that sounds good having it combined into one unit. I already have a standard limiter in mine though.

So have I, but you can still run the Speedshift as a secondary limiter, or just turn the limiter feature off. It also has some pretty dazzling shift lights as well

my last post was directed at Chris Y (I didnt realise two Chris's had posted)
do you know which unit it is ? is it the one that sits on top of the dash? Mine is a Micro Dynamics. I'm not sure we are allowed launch control but it sounds like a good idea. |

There's nothing fancy just a standard rev limiter.
I think the Challenger has an advantage over mine at the moment with all its lightweight bits and wheels. Are you doing the Mallory test Sam? |

Woody, mine is the unit that sits on top of the dash. Just had a look at Omex's site (I believe they bought Armtech), and can't find anything equivalent being sold. About the only thing close is the clubman limiter with launch control, but I can't see if it provides flat-shifting facility. May be a good idea to give them a call. Their website is http://www.omextechnology.co.uk

There's a panel unit from Armtech which does all the functions according to the DT catalog.
I just thought, if you have a microswitch under the clutch pedal, doenst that mean that you have to press the clutch all the way in ? coz you probably dont when you're shifting quickly. |

Nope, it's a switch over the clutch pedal, which is held 'down' when the clutch pedal is up, so when you push the pedal down a little way, it makes the circuit. A bit like the close sensors on saloon car doors.
you only need to push it a little way for it to operate. |
