Women at Le Mans

Does anyone know if there is a definitive list anywhere of all the female drivers who have taken part at Le Mans? I've have a quick look on Google, and there's info about a number of drivers, but no list as such. Any ideas?

I think this list denotes the first year that a particular driver took part, since several of these took part a few times, certainly, Anny Charlotte-Verney, Lilian Bryner and Claudia Hurtgen have.

Correct, for all the details cars & results, you will have to buy or borrow the book, not sure how much copyright rules allow here.
Amanda (Stretton) never did get to Le Mans as she decided to get pregnant instead

Desire Wilson also raced 83 (Obermaier 956), 91 (Pink Spice) with Cathy Muller and Lyn SJ.

Has Davina Galica ever raced?

George Fouche looks a like a woman in the 85 video too...

Love the Fouche reference.......

I should say that I'm not researching for a competition, I just have a correspondent looking for links and although I could probably trawl through my own records and name the ladies at Le Mans since 1986, I couldn't find a definitive list. I think the short answer is to refer the guy to 'Women in Motorsport' and let him take it from there.

Thanks very much for all the information - you educated and knowledgeable lot you!

Off the top of my head she was about a second quicker than Martin Short in qualifying, Barbosa was a few seconds quicker than both. Don't know about the race though, the lack of power steering may have had an impact.

The last all lady driver team was 1991. Clearly Vanina Ickx is one candidate if this arrangement was envisaged once more, but currently who has the ability to partner her?

Yep,looks like there should be a second page.
Also this french production cannot cope with the curious pre-war british practice of referring to married women by their husbands first name.Gordon Simpson was obviously a man.Anyone know what his other half's name was?

"Mrs Gordon Simpson" isn't Gordon's wife - she's double-barrelled.

She raced at Brooklands a few times in 1935 and I've a racecard which reports her competing in a Vale Special as "Mrs E. Gordon-Simpson". No idea yet what the "E" stands for though.

Slightly off topic, but interesting, isn't it, that there were quite a few successful women drivers in the Thirties, when the cars were probably more physical to drive than now.
